Question about Sony KP-53S65 53" Rear Projection Television
My Sony KP 53S65 53" rear projection TV has developed a problem that I am guessing is what would be called a "contrast" problem. The picture is fine as far as color, tint, brightness etc. I say fine meaning the picture is not blurry or distorted or degraded in any other way but the blacks (or any dark color will appear this way) on the screen are not nice and clear black, they seem to have a whitish or washed-out look to it as if the brightness were turned up really high. I've tried every video setting and combination therof to try and eliminate this whitish appearance but have been unsuccessful. The TV is over 8 years old and I have done nothing to it except turn it on and off. It has worked flawlessly. Only lately has it developed this annoying problem. I don't know if a cleaning would fix it, it has never been cleaned (if it ain't broke don't fix it, right?), or if an lamp or gun etc. needs to be replaced. HELP!!!
While the root of the problem is likely the picture tubes aging, I'm sure it would benefit from a cleaning and adjusting. After the dust is cleaned from the lenses, the screen controls could likely be lowered to get the blacks you desire. An experienced tech would be able to do this for you.
