Lines across screen on playback.

When I playback my recording on the camcorder, there are wide blue lines across the screen. I've tried cleaning the camcorder with a cleaning tape and a q-tip with alcohol. I tried to switch tapes to an old recorded tape that was fine previously but now that tape plays back with the same lines.

I have the exact same problem! I have a samsung SCD103 miniDV camcorder and when I record, everything looks fine, but when I play it back there are several horizontal lines. You can faintly hear the audio, but there is a high-pitched squealing sound drowning it out. I've tried the cleaning tape, and have never used a q-tip on the heads. I've also tried different tapes and tapes that played fine before, but they all look the same with the horizontal lines. Can someone give me an idea what's wrong with this camcorder?

I have exactly the same horizontal line problem with my Panasonic PV-DV400D-K. I also used cleaning tape and q-tips nothing seems to fix the issue.

How can I fix the alignment problem of the tiny video heads?

I have a problem similar to this.
Only a big gray strip w/ different colored dots on it OR frames from previous playback will stay shown. And both these only occur on the right side of the screen.
I have not cleaned it with a q-tip.

A Q-tip should never be used to clean a video head.  Unfortunately they can pull the tiny head out of alignment.  I believe this is your problem and the repaid may be more costly than a new purchase.

Solid blue lines through Picture on playback mini DV PV-gs19

One possible cause is that normal recording
could not be performed because the heads were
dirty at the time of recording. Clean the heads,
and perform recording and playback again. If
normal playback can be performed, the heads are
clean. Before an important recording, be sure to
conduct a test recording to make sure that normal
recording can be performed.

≥If the heads become dirty soon after cleaning,
the problem may be the tape. If so, try another
cassette.

≥During playback, the picture or sound may be
interrupted momentarily, but this is not a
malfunction of the Camcorder. (One possible
cause is that the playback is interrupted by dirt
or dust that momentarily adheres to the heads.)

Grey lines across the screen

Does this happen on all dvs tapes? If so then it is a problem with the head reader of the cam, but if only one tape, then that tape is either has quite an old recording on it or the tape is damaged.

Panasonic PV-GS500

I had the same problem but without the needing cleaning message on my Pana PvGs12, weird as it sounded, I stopped it but left it on and gave it a whack on my palm and then tired playing it again and it fixed it. But I have heard it may also need professional head repair and that it may be out of alignment too? Try switching from doing it in the camera mode and or in the playback mode. I'd also try the reset button.
