Question about Nikon Coolpix 5400 Digital Camera

LCD blank & No picture taken

My Nikon Coolpix 5400 won't take picture recently. While camera is on any photo taking mode, LCD monitor does not show the picture. If I press shutter there is no picture shut into memory. Old stored pictures are still viewable via LCD. It seems no signal gets into the lense? Someone please help me to figure it out. I bought a little more than 1 year ago - warranty is over!

This appears to be a well known CCD problem, which Nikon acknowledges only for the COOLPIX 3100, 5700 and SQ models. Nikon denies the CCD problems on the 5400 are related, even though a Google search for this problem returns numerous results which claim the same defective Sony CCD sensor was used in the 5400 as was used in the 3100, 5700, and SQ models. When the micro USB Cable is plugged into the camera you MAY be able to take photos. The camera MAY work normally EXCEPT for the MONITOR or Screen. The screen is TURNED off when you plug in the cord.

Camera does not show taken ( saved) pictures
problem is in memory card...i think. try with cleaning memory card contacts. use pure alcohol and small piece of cotton to clean dust or other dirt. if this not help, try some card reader to transfer images from camera to PC. try also with some other camera. it's possible memory card is damaged and you can't do nothing. try reinstall nikon software on your PC.

Hello, I went and researched a few points in the manual and hope this helps to some extent. If this doesn't help, try resetting your camera by removing the batteries for 30 seconds, then reinstalling them and turning on the camera again.
Monitor is blank:
• Camera is off.
• Batteries are not correctly inserted or battery-chamber
cover is not properly latched.
• Batteries are exhausted.
• EH-62B AC adapter (available separately) is not properly
connected.
• Camera is in sleep mode. Press shutter-release button
halfway.
• Monitor is off.
• USB cable is connected.
• AV/Video cable is connected


No picture is taken when shutter release button is pressed:


• Camera is in playback mode.
• Batteries are exhausted.
• Red (!) lamp flickers: flash is charging.
• Green (AF) lamp flickers: camera unable to focus.
• Message "CARD IS NOT FORMATTED" appears in
monitor: memory card is not formatted for use in your
camera.
• Message "OUT OF MEMORY" appears in monitor:
insufficient memory to record picture at current Image
mode setting.

td48: Have you tried pulling up the menu? Rotate the dial on the top of your camera to the setup tab while your camera is charged and tell me if you get anything on the display. if you do but the camera takes black pictures then you may be experiencing the same issue many others are and there is an official Nikon service bulletin.

Blur on LCD and on pictures taken
Sorry to tell you this but your CCD is gone. In a fwe days time pics will be black in color. CP 5400 uses a batch of defective Sony CCD's. Nikon's service center in Kolkata, India replaced the CCD in my CP 5400 free of cost. This was because Nikon has issued a service advisory. Try your luck with the Nikon service center closest to your home!
