Mi computer doesn't work anymore. It's an HP tx1220. My warranty has expired and a technician has told me that probably it was the mother board. What can I do?

  • anya77 Nov 25, 2008

I do appreciate your answer. I see that I didn't explain what specifically happened.

The power cord works well, or that was the tech told me when he saw it.
The problem is that my laptop is dead. I can't even arrive to shoot it at first. That means when I try to turn it on, automatically it
    turns off.

What can I do if there is a problem with the mother board?

Ok what do you mean by doesn’t work?
No power? no lights? dead?

Have you tried a different power cord?
I ask this because of these things

  • Laptop power cords can just give out without warning

  • And just because the green light on the power cord is lit does not mean it is putting out enough power or any at all

  • And even if you test the power cord and it reads the correct voltage does not mean it is still putting out enough amperage to handle a load (like powering up the computer) Of course that is extremely rare but I have seen that happen before

  • Before giving up hope I would try borrowing another cord from someone with an HP laptop or one of those I-GO laptop cords with the changeable tips or something or even better yet try your power cord on a different laptop and if the other laptop turns on .then well I am sorry

NOTE: if your power cord has a little green light on it and that light goes dim or starts flashing as soon as you plug it into the laptop then that is a very good indication (9 times out of 10) that your motherboard has gone bad and shorted out somewhere.

But there are too many possibilities of what could be wrong with out more info

When you plug it in do any lights on the computer come on at all?

I wouldn’t give up all hope yet .. that is a pretty nice little computer and worth trying to figure it out.

My CQ61-411WM doesn't boot anymore. Symptoms:

Hi

If the graphics card was intact, the external monitor test would have given you an image.

Unfortunately, this seems like a graphics card problem common to this manufacturer (google HP Compaq Notebook Graphics Problems).

This fault can be repaired only by specialist laptop repairers with specialist tools.

The repair is called Reballing the Ball Grid Array.

Reballing has a marginal success rate and even if successful, the fault can reoccur. A typical professional repair warranty would give you 3-6 months post-repair warranty.

Sometimes the surface of the graphics chip is too damaged to repair.

This repair can be expensive as it may involve several time and labour intensive rounds of disassembly, repair, reassembly and testing.

If you do opt for repair, ensure that the repairer is a specialist, properly equipped with an Infra Red Workstation, experienced in this specific type of repair, is willing to do a No-Fix-No-Fee Repair and offers a Repair Warranty.

If the laptop's warranty has expired and the repair cost seems high to you, it may be time to consider a new laptop.

Sorry for the bad news.

Hope this helps.

I was told by a Linksys technician that my WRT300N router has expired. Do you why this is? I thought that if you bought a product it's good for life.

The technician probably meant the Warranty for the product is expired, this basically means you are not eligible for free technical support from them any longer, the product itself doesn't expire unless it breaks.

My screen saver doesn't work I WAS TOLD TO REBOOT AFTER CALLING FOR OVER 11 MONTHS WITH RECOVERY DISC AND IF IT DOESN'T WORK THEN I WAS ADVISED TO CALL BACK AND GET AN ORDER NUMBER SO THAT I CAN SEND IT...

Today is the 9th. Your warranty has expired.

Before today, did you get an RMA (Return Materials Authorization) number, which entitles you to send it back, under warranty, to get it inspected/repaired?

If you have an HP "incident-number" that was created before today,
you might still be able to request an RMA number, arguing that the
incident was opened *before* the warranty expired.

No Boot Up Too

Sorry to hear about your HP problems with your DV2000
If you go to HP.COM and check the recalls and extended warranty.
I some cases HP offers an additional 1 year from date of warranty expiration. or 2 years from date of purchase.
If your unit has lost video, shuts down, won't startup.. Review, these areas under your model...
Note.......
Do not call HP if possible until you have found the needed information on your machine.

1. After you have your information,
(A) copy it, (B) call on it. (C) Register your problem with HP and get a Trouble ticket on file.
If HP is going to warranty to repair, they will issue you a New warrant for the New Repair, from the date of the New repair.
Don’t waist time, one day can make the difference...
Hope this information has been of help to you...

P.S. Please check your LapTop battery’s for possible recalls.

Generally this type of problem arises due to Battey. But in u r case it appears like a Mother Board Problem. So u better to visit nearer HP/compaq Service Station u can extende warranty for another year if ur previous extended warranty expired within 6 months...there is a provision in HP Customer Support.
Apart from this You can buy third party Mother boards compatible for V 2000 in other Laptop Acessories store

My dv2000 boots but screen is split into like 8 parts (each part showing same thing) there are some wavy lines..sometimes its ok ...i try to load windows vista recovery (from partition) - it crashes on...

I have the same problem that my screen splits into 6 but occasionally screen comes normally. I gave to HP service center and they told me to change my mother board. I was worrying about the cost of Mother Board bcoz it costs 1/3 of my purchased rate and also my warranty was expired just 2 months before.

So, I tried some way to fix this temporarily, while screen comes normally, I went to Safe Mode, it works fine. So, I got an idea, it works in less hardware access, I think, how it works when removing NVIDIA display driver. So, I removed it. Now, it works fine but there is a difference in display but that doesnt matter while comparing previous.

I'm still searching permanent solution. I'm planning to change the Hardware of NVIDIA card. Lets see,

Faulty motherboard

You should be able to find an HP service provider in your area either by looking in the phonebook or by calling HP directly. You may even be able to order the part directly from HP. You will have to pay for it, however, and if you choose not to do the work yourself, will also be billed for the labor.

Warranty expire

Hi,

If your computer's warranty is expired, you can go ahead and purchase extended warranty for your computer by contacting HP Support.

Let me inform you that ongoing issues will not cover under this warranty.

The extended warranty will be updated within a month time.

Thanks and Regards,
Sharath
