I have a Pilips DVDR630VR combi with DVD read and write faults.
Can I replace the DVD burner with another or mod one from an IDE type.
I believe Philips DVD discs are different from those of other disc manufactures and through earlier disc faults I have kept to philips discs. Is the problem with the philips burner due to its slow 4x burn speed.

This happens sometime when the drop down menu in the recording program is not set correctly for the dvd recorder it may be set for another recording device or the dvd player. If this in not the case try removelng the dvd recorder in device manager and leting it reinstall
you can buy that type of hardware anywhere since it is standard for all desktop. Your current drive is IDE meaning that the data cable on it is an IDE type. Go to your local computer store and ask for a DVD writer IDE, since there is really no price difference now for a combo or dvd writer drive, it will be like 10 $ more for the writer. I live in canada so if you are in the US could be less here a DVD writer is around 35 $ at a computer shop.
EASY. TRY TO REPLACE YOUR OLD IDE CABLE CONNECTED AT THE BACK OF YOUR DVD. BUY A NEW IDE CABLE IT MIGHT SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM.AND LASTLY MAKE SURE THAT THE IDE CABLE IS WELL SEATED ON BOARD AND ON DVD.
Hi,
Is this a Combi-Drive. they read and write CDs but only read DVDs.
Try it on another IDE connector, or change the jumper setting on the back to Master Or Slave.
If you are using Nero or similar, view the drives capabilities, and the formats of read/write that the device supports.

if the pc reboots, then a driver or hardware fault is the cause, try uninstaling the dvd drive in device manager, then restart pc to install it again, or if you are able connect the dvd drive to another ide cable connector incase its a fault from the motherboards ide channel.
