Question about Electrical Supplies
Our disposer has had a lingering smell that we can't seem to get rid of. We've tried ammonia, baking soda, vinegar, and nothing worked. Is there some other way of getting rid of these smells
Remove and clean trap underneath sink.
Then flush disposal and tubular drain with hydrogen peroxide

It sounds like the disposer has something jamming it. Try using the breaker wrench supplied with the disposer (or a suitable-size hex wrench) fitted into the socket on the bottom. Rock the wrench back and forth to see if you can loosen the jam. Another trick is to use a wooden rod (end of a broom handle, for example) to push on the blade to try dislodging the jam. Look inside with a flashlight to see if there is something that is easily missed. (I have found drink can tabs, coins and a shelf clip that way.)
It's also possible the motor starting capacitor inside the disposer or the motor itself is bad, in which case you would probably spend less on a new disposer than on repairing this one. But a jam is more likely.

Sorry you are doomed. The only other way to install is to have a plumber come back out and lower the drain in the wall.

You are exactly right. Knife, spoon, fork , whatever. that metal on metal sound is produced in the flail chamber.
Get a flashlight and have a look inside.
Needle nose pliers can be handy for extraction.
