Cyberhome DVR 1200 acting up; won't format new blank dvds; says no disk, etc
I recently purchased this Cyberhome DVR 1200 (about 4 months ago) and didn't have any problems with it and then all of a sudden it went haywire. First it wouldn't let me finalize a couple of dvds I had just recorded. Then the tray would not open until I unplugged it and plugged it back in. Then it wouldn't format new blank dvds and finally it won't read any of the dvds I've already made...the same ones it played for the past few months. It also won't let me edit. And now it started making a slight noise. No burning smell to it but the noise will be there for a few minutes then it stops and then it starts up again and that is even with just turning it on and not yet putting a dvd in it. Today I tried to reach Cyberhome but their web site is under construction and I can't find a phone number for them so I can call. The only other thing I can do is find the receipt in all my tax records and take it back to Walmart and you know what they will say....too bad. Why is so many people having problems with their Cyberhome DVRs when the Cyberhome DVD players work great! I had a $270.00 DVD player and got a Cyberhome for $29.00 and it worked better than the expensive one which is why I purchased a Cyberhome DVR. Can anyone help? I have made lots of dvds but can't afford $100.00 every few months. Also the only blank dvds that will work in it is Memorex. Hope I've given you enough info to help out. Thanks..I feel like pulling my hair out!

Cyberhome has gone out of business in the US. My DVR 1200 stopped working but I was able to repair some capacitors on the power supply to get it going again. You can find more support information about the 1200 and 1600 on these websites:

First the Dvr 1200 has hard ware failure in it the tray eject unit and the display is failed ........................................it can fix in local service center.............................
Second your New DVR 1600 check the format of the dvd is it compactiable with format of the player and if face the same problem get it replaced as this is new player manual opening could lead no warranty on the player , it better to get it replaced ..
What format are you recording in?If the recorder is set for DVD +R, and your playback machine won't read the disc, you may need to record on a DVD-R, or a DVD +-R. Or vice-versa. Some DVDRW discs will record on one machine and won't play on another. The media are incompatible.
Another problem - if you are copying a copy-protected disc, it might not play back either.
Are you sure you are finalizing the disc? This process takes 4-5 minutes and requires two or three responses sometime.
Hi. I have this problem with my unit. After a lot of research on the net it apperars that this is caused by problems with the laser pickup. The laser is either dead or is on its way out and doesn't have the strength it needs to read sensitive DVDs but is OK with Audio CDs.
A lot of CyberHome units have this problem due to the poor quality of the laser pickup units they use. I have been told that they have since gone bankrupt. If it is still under warranty then it you may be able to get it repaired but otherwise it may be cheaper to get new unit.
i am also having the same problem. i have used about 30 brand new DVD+RW in the darn thing and they all tell me the same thing. disc error.
Same exact issues.
