Motherboard upgrade Running Windows XP. tried upgrading to MSI RX480 Neo2-F motherboard. Once everything was installed Windows would not start. would get to windows startup then loop back to bootup screen. When I re-installed old motherboard and components everything went back to normal. Is there any special preparation needed for Windows XP before installing new components? On another computer tried the upgrade installion on XP disc and ended up merely re-installing XP

The different hardware components on the new motherboard require different drivers that what are already loaded on your installation of Windows. My guess is something requires a driver that the base Windows driver install will not cover and as a result errors out and restarts. I too have tried this trick on several occasions, sometimes it work and sometimes it doesn?t; however, the key is similar hardware. My guess would be IDE controller, video, chipset or perhaps USB 2.0 is causing your problem. What you can do perhaps is boot into Windows safe mode and try to figure out what is causing the problem. In the long run it may save time and aggravation by just reinstalling Windows ?? Let us know how it turns out.
