It is not the lamp. TV starts to turn on, then blinks red three times.
3 blinks is a error code "lamp door not properly closed" but what it really means is the lamp door is warped from heat from the lamp.
The door if removed has a plastic peg on its back side-the peg when door is in place engages a tiny lever behind it----
What to do?
Remove door and engage the lever with something not metal==turn set on and if it comes on you know the door is the issue.
DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE LAMP- DO NOT OPERATE SET PROLONGED TIME WITH DOOR REMOVED OR COVERED WITH ANYTHING ELSE==THIS IS ONLY TO SEE IF THE DOOR AND SWITCH ARE YOUR PROBLEM.

I also tried to put the old lamp in to see if it would turn on, but that did not work either. But, I fixed it! :))) The problem was the Pcb assy (or board) Sears part number A1177123A. It is the sensor that makes sure the lamp is properly installed. It may have moved with the heat from the lamp. I took apart the back panel of the tv, and I moved the circuit board to see if I could see any other parts that might have a problem. The new lamp (and the old lamp), did not push the metal connector far enough to make a connection on the sensor. I put a few layers of electrical tape on the 2 pin shaped part of the lamp (plastic part) that pushes the connection to the sensor. The tv works like new.

bad lamp driver, if you have already replaced the lamp. If not, try replacing the lamp WITH AN ORIGINAL SONY LAMP!. Don't waste time with cheap replacements, you get what you pay for.
3 blinks should on this model mean "LAMP DOOR IS NOT CLOSED" BUT IT really means something else.

in this set 3 blinks means lamp cover not set properly but i think that your problem is your 6x red blinks that means you have a problem in the audio section in your set(missing a voltage) or a themal fuse open.

Also to clarify, the lamp button is not blinking red, it is the power button
I have this same issue, put the old lamp back in, close all doors and tv turns on. Put new lamp in and red light blinks 3 times and tv stays off. Help please model. kdf-50e2000
