There's a couple of things you can do:

Press the F2 key to enter the BOIS setup and reset those defaults

and/or

Use the driver disc. It writes a complete image on the hard drive with all the drivers.

It could be a hard drive crash. Can you refort the hard drive and see if you get any errors.

Check to see if you have any scratched on the CD.

SOURCE: i install xp on toshiba satellite l300 psl pgl but becames slow

Its hard to do if you dont have OS or recovery disk to reset as factory settings.
by the way, if your computer still runs (but slowly) then you can clean up all just to make it faster.

for it:
reboot your PC and keep holding F8 until your screen goes to safe mode
once you are in DOS mode then choose start as Safe mode option
once you reach in desktop then first clean all caches (such internet temporary files etc)
and click on start>run then type in "prefetch" without quotes then hit enter and delete all files whatever you see there in displayed windows.
then scan your pc for viruses using latest updated antivirus software.
once you are done with that run Ccleaner (download from here :http://www.ccleaner.com/) once you install run Registry scanning which fixes all corrupted registry.

if you do these all there is no doubt you Laptop will be as it was in new.
for next time you can use Spybot software to protect your pc
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html
(this software is good for spyware, adware etc and free of cost too)
Good luck
and do not forget to rate all answer.

1. Press and hold the 0 (zero) key and at the same time, tap the power buttononce to switch on
your notebook.

3. When prompted by the warning screen; select Yes to continue with the systemrecovery.
4. Select Recovery of Factory Default Software; click Next.
5. Select Recover to out-of-box state.6. Click Next again.
7. Click Next to Start recovery.
8. Restart the Toshiba laptop when there restoration process finishes running.Follow the prompts that appear on the screen to set up the laptop's date, timeand language settings.

I want to reset it

@lslchrisorei

Toshiba laptops have a built-in recovery mode on the system wherein you don't need to use a disc to restore it to factory default (if that's what you mean by "I want to reset it". The hotkey for the recovery is the 0 key (don't use the key on the numpad). To activate it, you need to turn the computer off, then you need to hold the 0 key then turn the computer back ON. If you hear a continuous beep, you can let go of the key and It will then say "Windows is loading files" and will proceed with System Recovery. If this doesn't work, that means that this computer doesn't have the hidden partition for you to restore the unit to factory defaults (either it's faulty or it's not there) and you need to order the recovery discs from Toshiba at 1-800-457-7777 (for US) and for Canada, it's 1-800-663-0378.

If you're still under warranty, they'll give it to you for free.

Cheers

How do you go about to format a toshiba l650 and reinstall windows 7

Hi! If you have the Windows 7 disc just insert it restart the computer. It will boot directly from the disc. Then follow the step by step instructions here.
If you don't have the Windows 7 disc, you have two ways to reformat your Toshiba computer.
Using Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility from the recovery partition
In case of a hard disk drive failure, you may be able to restore the drive to the factory default state using the on-disk Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility (in a special partition on the hard disk drive).
You can select restoring the entire hard disk drive to the factory default state, or restoring only the C: drive -- without affecting other partitions (for example, a D: drive) -- or changing the size allocated to your C: drive, and then restore it.
To recover your hard disk drive from a system failure using the utilities stored on your computers HDD, follow these steps:
  1. If the computer is running, shut it down -- by clicking Start, Shut Down, and again Shut Down.
  2. Press and hold the 0 (zero) key on your keyboard and then press the computers power switch. When the computer turns on, the Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility screen will appear, presenting three options:

Sample TOSHIBA HDD Recovery Utility screen

Restore Original Factory Image (Recommended)
CAUTION:
Restoring a hard disk drive to its factory default state deletes all partitions on the hard disk drive and all data stored on those partitions. All of your files and information will be lost! Be sure to back up all important files first.
  1. Press 1 to restore your hard disk drive to its original factory default state. A confirmation message will appear, indicating that all data will be overwritten and lost during the restore process. Be sure to back up all important files before proceeding.
  2. Click Yes to begin the recovery. A message will appear once the operation is finished, indicating the HDD has been restored.
  3. Press any key to restart the computer.
* The options 2 & 3 are for advanced users.
Hard Disk Drive Recovery using Recovery CDs or DVDs
You may also wish to to run the Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility from Recovery CDs or DVDs that you have created.

Insert the first Recovery CD or DVD into your CD/DVD drive, and turn on the computer. Once the computer is running, the TOSHIBA HDD Recovery Utility screen will appear, presenting the same three options above. Again Press 1 to
restore your hard disk drive to its original factory default state. Click Yes to begin the recovery. Press any key to restart the computer.

Installing Drivers and Applications
The TOSHIBA Application Installer allows you to reinstall the drivers and applications that were originally bundled with your computer.
To reinstall drivers and applications:
  1. Double-click the "Toshiba Application Installer" icon on the Windows desktop. This utility may also be launched by clicking Start -->All Programs --> Hard Disk Recovery Utilities.

    htd7c02140000r0136067.jpg

  2. Click "Next".
  3. Click the item(s) you wish to install. To select multiple items, hold down the Ctrl key as you click your selections.
  4. Click "Install".
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation process.

Hope this helps.

Factory restore

On a laptop there is no factory setting reset option (unless you mean bios reset ). To get the laptop back to the initial 'as new' condition you need to re-install the system using the recovery disk on startup. Put recovery cd 1 inside laptop cd drive and restart the computer. Follow instructions for complete restore.
If you do complete restore you can lose all your data.
