We just bought one of these and unfortunately, when we go into the TV Guide and press the record button on a program, the player won't record. It will list the program under its "going to record" list but when the time comes, it just cancels itself and removes the program from the list. We have tried several different ways including the manual way. When trying to record a program that is playing right now, it gives the message "An Unexpected Error Has Occured". What could be the problem? Thanks.
I can play the programs recorded on the hard drive, I cannot get the Guide to record. When I choose a different channel the number comes on the screen but immediately changes back to 193.I can play the programs recorded on the hard drive, I cannot get the Guide to record. I have exactly the same problem. The difference with mine is that mine actually starts up - thsn won't shut off until I manually when I set it to record when I'm away.
I have the same problem. Mine, though, will accept the input for time-shifting and start recording, but won;t shut off. No entry on the HDD or playing the DVD I insert.I have the same problem. So.... Who uses a VCR any more. They are ancient history.
They don't last forever so perhaps it's time to think ahead....
The modern way to Record video is to use a Hard Disk Drive Recorder rather than a VCR. They have a built in tuner and can record 2 stations at once and have a built in Electronic Program Guide. The EPG info is transmitted with the Digital TV transmission from the broadcaster.
I bought one 2 weeks ago for an old 85yo friend so he could record late night stuff and play back later. He still uses the VCR but only for old VHS Tape playback. I got him a TEAC HDR9650TS Digital Video Recorder and I picked it up new for Aus$188.

Good Luck
Maybe you can get a little more life out of that VCR still
I guess you mean a Set Top Box to convert digital TV transmission to old analog TV. Choose the correct video format for your screen.
Ah... Perhaps Your recording at an old standard & passing it to a modern TV or HD TV with the digital output from 1080 HD to 720 or lower still.
OR
Get a Digital Hard Drive recorder.....

Are you still having problems recording live TV shows? You can try unplugging the receiver from the power outlet for 10 seconds and plug back in. This will make the receiver reboot and then acquire satellite signal. Once the acquisition is complete, a program guide download will take place. Allow the download and see if the receiver will allow you to record.
If it doesn't, then run a check switch test. Press your menu button to bring up the main menu. Press 6, 1, and 1 on the remote which will take you to the Point Dish screen. Upper right hand corner of TV screen is a button, "Check Switch". Maneuver to that button and select. You will now be at the "Installation Summary" screen. At the bottom of screen, select "Test" button. Allow the test to run. After completing, it will automatically take you back to installation summary screen. Check for any errors windows. Exit completely out of all menus till you are back to "Acquiring Satellite Signal". Allow program guide download after acquisition, then check if you can record.
