Hello and Happy New Year to all.
I have a problem with my S5000. Turned it on last week, lens comes out as it should BUT no image on either viewfinder or LCD and camera shuts down after about a minute.
I have been told that the chip is none too healthy and needs replacing (which would cost about the same as buying a replacement camera).
If I cannot repair the camera myself I shall consider upgrading to a better model though I will have to save for a while which means that I miss out on the 'spring shots' of Bluebells and Daffodils.
Please can anyone point me in the right direction for faultfinding and diagnosis. Also where couls I buy replacement chips etc..

Re: Fuji Finepix S5000
CCD sensor is faulty and should be replaced by Fuji agent free of charge because properly manufactured CCD sensor should last 15 years at least. Otherwise pay for labor to have new CCD block put in ( 1 hour ) and insist on the agent covering the cost of the part.

Hi! Yes, it's the image sensor (CCD). For Fujifilm it usually comes together with lens and that makes it quite expensive - about 200$ here. I whink you should get a new one.
i was told by fuji it is the ccd or cmos sensor effectively the eye of the camera it is faulty and needs replacement fuji said it would cost £90 to replace as the newer model of the fuji is only 145 i opted to buy a new camera so i bought i differant brand and am very happy with my dmc tz3
If you take the picture and move it to a computer do the lines show up on the picture when it's on the computer screen? If yes you probably need a new CCD. A CCD take what the lens see and turns it into a digital image.
If the picture comes out fine it may be a loose cable or bad LCD screen.
Either way http://www.precisioncamera.com can fix it for you, they are a bit expensive but do a great job.
Caused by faulty CCD sensor ( see image bellow ) , but Fuji repairs this fault free of charge because it is manufacturing fault, so I suggest you contact them.
contacted Fuji - they offered to fix it for ?160.Didnt give a reason for the failure.
Didn't get it fixed as a new one only costs ?220!
Will be keeping clear of Fuji's in the future.
