Garmin nuvi 200 pick up charger as a usb cable

My Garmin nuvi 200 won't charge normally it would charge now it pick up the charger as a usb cable.
Can anyone help?

    I have the same problem, is there a way to fix the problem so that the unit will charge will in use for driving.

The problem is very simple... The GPS unit perceives whatever you plug in depending on the power supply figure.
If you car charger is not giving enough power, then the GPS perceive the cable as being connected to a pc.... thus not charging. Check with an car electrician if you can raise the power supply on your car...

I can't give you a source of the problem but I can give you at least a temporary solution. Turn the unit on without the cord attached. After it comes up, press on the battery button for 10 seconds until the diagnostic screen comes up. Plug the cord in and press Exit and the unit should work while it charges. You will not be able to use it with the computer using this method, however. To do that you need to plug it in while either without powering it on or after it is powered up normally.

Nuvi 1350 charges in 4 to 8 hours. If your Nuvi is not accepting a charge, you may have a loose or bad USB cable. Note that the Nuvi can be charged with a phone charger. Charging it with a connection to a computer moves charging time toward 8 hours and more towards infinity if you don't have the driver installed on the computer. Turn the Garmin off. If the driver ins installed in the coputer, plug the Garmin into the computer and then hold down the power button on the Garmin for 30 seconds.

Why won't my Garmin Nuvi 780 charge?
A couple part answer here. The USB pin out for the Garmin is strange. If it goes into PC mode, then the cable is got the wrong pin out for the unit. Try different cables until one works.

If you can get a full charge on the unit and the battery does not provide at least an hour + of battery use, then the battery needs to be replaced. Amazon sells replacement battery kits with instructions. You just have to make sure you order the right one.

This unit comes with a charger (AC). There is alxo a car charger. Both have a USB connecter that plugs into the side of your unit.

What do I use to hook my gps to the pc, to update it
You will need a USB cable to make this connection.
Any USB generic charger will work. I used on my Garmin the Motorola cellphone USB cable.
The procedure is like this:
Connect, start Garmin Nuvi and disconnect; then reinsert the USB plug when your Nuvi model number is displayed at the bottom of the screen. You can even charge your Garmin this way. To reduce the charging time follow these steps:
# change the display brightness to less than 25%
# turn off the Garmin device.

My Nuvi 200 will not charge and the USB port
My condolences. I would suggest you plug the unit in to your computer's USB port using an appropriate data cable (in case you no longer have the Garmin data cable, there are lots of devices, including cameras, that use such a cable with the large USB plug at one end and the mini-USB at the other). That would give you a handle on where the fault lies -- in the auto charger cable itself vs the nuvi's socket. If the nuvi charges from your computer, you're halfway home; if not, I suspect the cost of repairing the nuvi's USB jack could exceed the cost of a replacement unit.

When I charge my nuvi 200 a picture of a computer modem connected to the unit is displayed
It's normal.
Becouse you use 4 wire usb cable.
And nuvi mounted as a drive to OS.
If to use 2-wire cable like for car lighter-it won't show the picture.

I connected the unit to the car charger instead of the USB charger and then held down the reset for 10-15 seconds, after which the system would show the computer connection on the charger and then boot up when not on the charger.

Garmin 200w goes into usb mass storage mode when pluged to charge
Steps:
1) Disconnect the nuvi from the charging cable.
2) Press and hold the battery meter icon for 8 seconds. This puts the nuvi into "system test" mode.
3) Plug in the power cable.
4) Click "Exit." The nuvi will reboot, but remain in GPS mode!
