I have a Toshiba model 50H82. I just lost the picture AND the sound. It was working fine, I turned it off one night, when I wanted to turn it back on the next night, there was no picture OR sound. The red LDE comes on and that is all.
I live 90 miles our in the sticks and would like to be able to fix this myself as a service call just to pick up the tv is 250 $ !
I have a great background in electronics and have been a ham radio operator for 40 years. I think i could fix it IF I knew what to replace.
THANK YOU for your time and help with my problem

Re: no picture or sound
This symptons is usually caused by a breakdown in the power supply. it may also be caused by a breakdown in the horizontal deflection circuits(hor. oscillator, pre drive or drive ckts.). this because the supplu voltages from tuner, video intermediate frequency (vif), video amplifier, sound intermediate frequency(sif), and vertical output are usually supplied by horizontal output circuit.
switch on the receiver and check whether the pilot lamp is on, or the filament of the crt is glowing. if not, possible short circuit before the rectifier circuit such as fuse, power cord or switch.
if the pilot lamp is on or the filament of the crt is glowing, check the b+ supply voltage for the horizontal deflection circuit. if the b+ voltage is zero or very low, check the rectifier circuit and the voltage regulator circuits. if b+ is nrmal, troubleshoot the horizontal deflection circuits.

the most common problem in this set is convergence---two chips are used and if one shorts what you have happens--only way to prove this is get at and unsolder all 18 pins on both chips----if set turns on then the chips and or a resistor near them are bad.
Soldering and getting at the chips requires some skill--the parts involved usually are under 30 dollars total.
Thats almost always caused by the surface mount capacitors which get weak on the hyper board. Hyper boards are going to be hard to find. But the capacitors can be replaced which will usually solve the issue. However it will require precise soldering skills to do the repair.
It sound to me like your tuner is going out. I would suggest that you contact a local service center to get the tuner replaced or just put up with it as long as you can.
I hope this helps.
2: Press the TV/VIDEO on the remote control or the TV to view a signal coming from another device connected to your TV, such as a VCR or video disc player. You can select ANT 1, VIDEO 1, VIDEO 2, VIDEO 3, ColorStream HD1, ColorStream HD2, or ANT 2 depending on which input jacks are used for connecting the devices.
*Be sure you have the right source to view video.
Try the above and post back before I can say there is a problem with your unit. If you have the user manual it's a good time to get it out. If you don't have it let me know and I will give you a link to obtain it. Good luck!!
