My camera has exactely the same symptoms!
Mine did it after my wife jumped in the lake with the camera in her pocket.
To make things worse, she tried to turn it on while still wet, even though I told her not to.
So my guess is that it is the CCD immager.
Is it possible to replace that?
Any other tips.

Just thought I let you know...

After I posted my reply, I grabbed the camera again, charged the battery up and voila, it worked again!!!

It just had been sitting for about 6 months.

I yet have to veify it's picture quality.

    So there is hope.

    Good luck

    Tom

Sounds like a defective CCD imager. Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. Please check the following two links for more info:

If you're not getting anything at all on the screen, it's possible that the screen is broken. This has happened to me. If you're willing to try it, go on eBay and buy an "AS-IS" version of this camera, I got mine for like $40, and simple swap the screens. It's not that hard. If you need help doing this. I'll post more detailed instructions (that is if that's actually the problem).

Have you tried the DISP button. This is a display button for the LCD. You can take the battery out for 10 minutes. That will reset it. You can download the user manual here:> http://alpha03u.c-wss.com/inc/ApplServlet?SV=WWUCA900
