You can use GarageBand to assign a song as your iPhone ringtone.
Step 1: Download GarageBand on your iPhone.
Step 2: Enter the Music section, and then import a song into it.
Step 3: After importing, a soundtrack will be showed below. You need to trim your favorite part of the song into 40 seconds.
Step 4: Long press the trim song and click Share button.
Step 5: Share the custom ringtone to Ringtone, and then you can find it on "Settings > Sound & Haptics"

Go to the same place that you go to to put it on vibrate and scroll down to set ring tones/alerts and sms text and change the settings the volume should be set to silent.
1) you must go to the phone book, highlight the wanted contact, click on options and then edit. 2) scroll down until you see the section "ringtone" and click on it. 3) Then choose audio, then ringtones. click on the ringtone you want, you must listen to it first, and then click on "select". 4) if you want a ringtone to be something you've recorded, click on "my voice" rather than "ringtones"
download the free app ringdroid in the app market.connect g1 to computer and mount .drag music into music folder.then open rigdroid.the music you dragged into folder should be here.cut the waveform however you want then save. now you can go to settings and under sound and display you can assign your newly made ring tone to your default tone.
copy any mp3 file to phone ( via cable or bluetooth )
go to multimedia = go to mp3 = now play the song you want as tone,
when song is playing, select options, and select = set as ring tone
DONE and smile......
2. to set Default sound ring tones...
go to menu = my stuff = sounds =
browse the sound files when you like one , select options, and set as ring tone.....
If you set the profile ring tone to OFF. Then select a contacts' number and assign it a Ring Tone. When that contact calls you the Ring Tone you assigned will ring.
If you select the same Ring Tone for all your contacts in a group they will all sound the same when they call.
Or select the same ring tone for a profile, but cancel the Tone you assigned to the contact(s).
