My scag 48 inch walk belt driven ,is having trouble going up slight hills , already change the clutch springs

I also have a 48" Skag wall behind mower. Have you checked the tension on each wheel's belt when under load? It that where the slippage is, or is there a slow down on the engine itself? If the engine is slowing down...several things to check...needs tune up...plugs...I also use premium gas in my mowers and get better performance. Check all belts for where and slippage. Is it engine or some mech connection?

Hope this helps

My 48" scag walk behind will stall out if the (deadman) handles are not held down

Sounds about right or else that is just what is suppose to happen. It is a safety so the mower doesn't run over the operator if something happens.

One of your hydro pumps are seized. this is causing the engine to stall when ever the torque is transferred to the pump. There are the small pumps (or final drives) under the engine. One or both need to be replaced

I have a js63 walk behind mower. The rear wheels bind/lockup when I pull the mower in reverse

Recently had this problem after replacing transmission on JS63. The drive spurs are directional on the axle and must be placed properly or the mower will not freely pull backwards or one or both wheels will drag on turns. It took several attempts to get this right before I solved the problem. Now the mower moves in all directions like butter. Found this forum thread after the fact that would have been very helpful in solving this issue. Check: https://www.mytractorforum.com/155-walk-behind-mowers/237253-jd-js63-repair-manual.html
