If condenser has leaked provided it is not oil or greese i would say that would cause a defective spark.

SOURCE: 8 hp briggs no spark, new coil ,new electronic

make sure the plug wireisn't grounding on sheet metal. Verify current to ignition module and that module is securely mounted for grounding. Negative side of coil to module, pos to ignition switch or starter button . Chk for current at coil +. . Coil -- should pulsate when cranking. Ensure there are no inline fuses, fuse box fuses, or fusible links incorporated into wires lesding to module. Good Luck_Ned_

SOURCE: trying to change the points on an old briggs and

Need to know what model Older engines have points "under" the flywheel. Use a wheel puller to remove after removing the nut in the center of the flywheel. Newer motors have an electronic ignition module. Follow the small wire from the magnetio. If it goes under the flywheel then you have points. If it goes to a small device on side of motor, you have electronic. You can go to http://www.briggsandstratton.com/ and look up your odel number.

Briggs engine tries to fire but just stops

Try adding a product called Sta-bil to the gas. Often when an engine sits for a long time the gas gels. The Sta-bil will dissolve the gel and varnish from the fuel system. I would also replace the spark plug, they corrode when sitting for long periods and will not spark well under compression.

Check the ignition cutout which should short the coil to ground to stop engine, isn't operating while you are cranking engine.
To check grounding, measure resistance from chassis to non chassis side of points.
This should be very low (= resistance of coil primary) and reduce further when points close.
