SOURCE: windows vista is not detecting lacie network space

In your office network, for sure, you have a DHCP server who gave the IP addresses to all devices for that network and this seems to be the reason for why you could see your NAS. On home, you also need a DHCP server. You don't say anything about you home network. The best idea is to just make a temporary network with 2 devices: your computer and your NAS by connecting the NAS directly to your computer's network adapter, set the IPV4 IP for that adapter to the same class addresses as your NAS was set by default (usually NAS had "192.168.x.y" where "x" could be 0, 1 or 2 "y" could be any value between 1 and 254, but mostly, 1) and try to access it via http to manage him (need a user name and a password). For NAS default address and username and password, consult NAS user manual. Access it with from your preferred browser using: \\192.168.x.y
Once you gain the control, cut off his DHCP service and tell him to accept the IP address from the network defined DHCP. (btw: one normal DHCP server is allowed on one network! Cascaded DHCP also is allowed, but it's a little bit complicated)
Good luck!

How to Recover Deleted Files From Network Drive

A network drive is a shared drive that can be accessed by any member of the network and is useful as a type of communal storage space. However, accidents can occur with a shared drive, as one user will be able to destroy the data of another user. Almost anything is recoverable from a computer's hard drive, however, requiring only the use of a simple piece of file recovery software.

  1. Download and install a piece of file recovery software such as Recuva, Undelete, or NTFS Undelete. Install this hardware to the computer which is physically attached to the network drive. Some of these programs are freeware (such as Recuva and NTFS Undelete), so choose the one that best fits your budget. In general, the best approach is to start with a piece of free software to see if you can accomplish the recovery, then move to more expensive pieces of software.
  2. Step 2Run your chosen file recovery program. Upon startup, the file recovery software will scan your hard drive for recently deleted files and folders and display a list of recoverable files on screen. This is possible because upon deletion, a file is not removed from the drive, but is only renamed to something that is unrecognizable by your operating system.
  3. Step 3Select the file to be "undeleted" and click on the "Recover" button to restore it to your hard drive. This will simply change the file back to its original name, so that it can once again be seen by the operating system.
  4. Step 4Repeat as often as needed to recover additional files from the drive.

Delete an undeletable file...

Delete an "undeletable" File.

Open a Command Prompt window and leave it open.
Close all open programs.
Click Start, Run and enter TASKMGR.EXE
Go to the Processes tab and End Process on Explorer.exe.
Leave Task Manager open.
Go back to the Command Prompt window and change to the directory the AVI (or other undeletable file) is located in.
At the command prompt type DEL <filename> where <filename> is the file you wish to delete.
Go back to Task Manager, click File, New Task and enter EXPLORER.EXE to restart the GUI shell.
Close Task Manager.

Or you can try this:
Open Notepad.exe
Click File>Save As..> locate the folder where your undeletable file is Choose 'All files' from the type box
Click once on the file you wanna delete so it's name appears in the 'filename' box.

put a "at the start and end of the filename (the filename should have the extension of the undeletable file to is will overwrite it)

click save,

It should as you to overwrite the existing file, choose yes and you can delete it as normal.

Here's a manual way of doing it. I'll take this off once you put into your first post zain.

1. Start
2. Run
3. Type: command
4. To move into a directory type: cd c:\*** (The stars stand for your folder)
5. If you cannot access the folder because it has spaces for example Program Files or Kazaa Lite folder you have to do the following. instead of typing in the full folder name only take the first 6 letters then put a ~ and then 1 without spaces. Example: cd c:\progra~1\kazaal~1
6. Once your in the folder the non-deletable file it in type in dir - a list will come up with everything inside.
7. Now to delete the file type in del ***.bmp, txt, jpg, avi, etc... And if the file name has spaces you would use the special 1st 6 letters followed by a ~ and a 1 rule. Example: if your file name was bad file.bmp you would type once in the specific folder thorugh command, del badfil~1.bmp and your file should be gone. Make sure to type in the correct extension.

I earased by mistake the photos from the card attached to the camera. is there any way i can restore them?

you can recover deleted photos from camera with camera recovery software like asoftech photo recovery.

First of all, do not save any new file to camera's memory card.

Take out memory card, and connect it to computer using a card reader. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in Windows Explorer.
Download asoftech photo recovery software
http://www.asoftech.com/apr/
Install and open the photo recovery software, select the memory card, and click 'Start' button.

I deleted my pictures

The photos should be recoverable with undelete software.

1) Step 1 - Don't save any more photos on that card.
2) Obtain undelete software
3) I have successfully used recuva.exe to undelete photos from a memory card. This program should be available online. I think it is freeware.
4) Install this program on to your computer and/or on to a spare memory stick.
5) Start the Recuva program and plug the memory card into your PC (or plug in the camera to your PC using a USB cable. Your computer will recognize the card in your camera as an external drive.

If you have taken no more photos you should be able to recover all the deleted files from your memory card.

Good luck!

Restoring deleted pictures

if you haven't continued to use the memory card you can download a freeware called glary undelete.
it will let you undelete most of the photos.there are several available.
The one I used was Glary undelete.
here is the text from the about section.
Glary Undelete is a free and easy-to-use yet powerful file undelete solution for FAT and NTFS file systems. It will bring back files emptied from the Recycle Bin, in a DOS window, from Windows Explorer with the SHIFT key held down. It will even recover files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses!

Glary Undelete works under Win 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista operating systems. The program supports all Windows file systems for hard and floppy drives including FAT12/16/32,NTFS/NTFS5 and image recovery from CompactFlash, SmartMedia, MultiMedia and Secure Digital cards.

Lacie 320 GB Hard Drive acting as if full when it's not.

Simplest solution: back up the data on the drive and repartition it (which will wipe it). Otherwise it sounds like it could be a problem with the file tree or structure of the drive, the configuration files could be corrupt, some program could have stored temporary files in a hidden place that cannot be deleted without making the program delete them, etc. If you are on a mac, spotlight Disk Utility and use it to repartition. If you are on a PC use the search thing from the start menu and find a program called disk management (or something similar to that, you'll know it when you see it.) external drives are annoying. i kick mine into the wall periodically for good measure.
