I am trying to replicate all programs from one PT630D to a newer unit, with no luck. I've used both kermit and PTCom, the comms utility developed by Unitech USA, and have successfully copied all the files I can see from one to the other. The program doesn't work on the newer unit.
Is it possible that either:
a) there is a hidden file on the old PT630 that I'm missing?
b) the software developer has added something to the BIOS to prevent the program being copied to another unit?
Any ideas how to check these things?
I asked Unitech tech support whether I can simply backup the old BIOS off the old machine and load to the new machine; but they reckon there is no way to backup the BIOS off the unit.
The device wont go into scan mode. SCAN.DAT is missing. Also when i try and sync the scanner with PC it says there is not enough room for all the records.

That message which your scanner is displaying is the normal and correct mode in stdby, there is no problem with it.
If the scanner says "bad command" is because you are pressing the "enter" (ENT) key without any command selected before.
Have you tried the ActiveX Control from Unitech?
They have a bunch of PT630 utilities available for download here:
