I wouldn't recommend spending a lot of money on this project, portable dvd players are borderline expendable electronics they just expect you to throw it away. Looks like you could get the same model on ebay for 60 - 80 bucks.

The exact thing happened to me 2 days ago! ...I wonder if it has to do with the new Kenwood firmware update? I called Kenwood and they told me to send it in for repair. I'm going to go to best buy car audio installers to see if maybe its a loose cable or not before I send it in to Kenwood.
if the circle is always showing up on the top right corner of the screen and doesnt load any games that means that you laser pick up is already busted.bring it to the nearest sony workshop for a replacement.
I had the same problem - unplug first- it is easy to undo all 6 small screws - open it up -plug in and then you can give it a little help to open it. It worked for me, BUT now it will open and close but not play the dvd.
