Panasonic Lumix FX07. when I turned the camera off, the lens did not close. Now, when I try to turn it on, it tries to focus for a few seconds then says "please turn camera off and then on again". I have tried this several times to no avail. Thanks for your help, it looks like a lot of people on the webiste arehaving the same problem
The nylon ratching cable that moves the lens on cameras will sometines slip a notch and cause the camera not to be able to focus properly. The camera detects this condition.
In addition, if there is an obstruction internally or externally, not allowing the camera to be able to fully extend the lens, this will cause a camera error.
You could try a little graphite lub on the lens itself while extended, and coax is with slight manual pressure. I would not recommend an oil base lub like WD40. It may work in the short term, but will collect dust and cause more problems in the future. A small plastic puff tube of graphite, dry carbon, is available from any hardware stores and some walmarts. It will lub like crazy, but is a dry powder and dust won't stick to it.
Once your lens is working, wipe off the lens barrel with a dust collecting cloth to remove any excess graphite. It is BLACK and you don't want it near the lens surface. Don't clean lense surface unless it shows it is necessary.
If this doesn't work, sell your camera to a repairman on an ebay auction and buy another used, refurb, or new one on ebay. Good prices, even on the newer TZ5.
