Tv has sound but no picture

I was watching tv and the picture just went off but the sound is there. I unpluged it and re-pluged it and it was still the same. I have cable on it, so I disconnected the cable, turned the tv off and waited several minutes and turned the tv back on yet still no picture but there is sound. Cannot access the screne menu, however the remote changes channels and increases/decreases the sound ok. Please help!

In addition to the problem with my tv, there was a problem with my cable converter box, we turned it in and another one was issured by the cable company that works fine. However my tv that it was originally plugged into is still not working. A cable representative came out to my home and said that my home was not grounded and that is what caused my tv to stop working. I have no problems with the electricity in my home. Can you give me a possible solution to this situation?

I have the same problem. Sound but no picture. However when I tip the TV forwards sometimes the picture comes back... so must be some kind of bad connection with the image cables... don't know how to fix it, I guess I have to get a handy man.

Sounds like you have lost video somewhere in the video circuits. Possibly the picture tube could have gone bad or lost filiament voltage. You can check to see if you have high voltage by holding your bare arm close to the screen. The hairs will stand up if you have high voltage. Absence of high voltage will also cause a black screen, but the sound might not work either since on some sets the power for the sound is supplied from the same circuit as the high voltage. Stargazer

With no picture but good sound, there is a possibility of Bad Connections on Jm400 on the main chassis. With the set being as old as it is, it may be better to replace it as this chassis is known for parts also going bad in the power supply as well. You don't want to get nickel and dimed to death at this point.

With those type of set RCA I can tell you that you have to take your set to the repair shop in order to have them change your flyback transformer. it could also be your picture tube or a diode that leads from the B+ connected from the flyback transformer to the video amp.

TV SHUT OFF WHILE WATCHING. UNPLUG AND THEN PLUGED BACK IN. RED LIGHT CAME ON IN FRONT FOR A SECOND AND WENT BACK OFF. TV WILL NOT COME ON.

power in the tv has nothing related with the DVD. The tv has to have raster (white screen) even without signal (cable, DVD, others) if the tv alone is just having the led flashing and neither sound nor video (black screen) The tv has a short circuit in some of the boards that are part of the tv system. the blinking is part of a protection when the tv was created in the factory. Refer to the technician to repair this problem.

Arcing inside no picture

Most times arcing like this is from the Horiz. output transformer (flyback). The insulation has a break down and up to 30 KV will find the nearest path to ground. This would require a tech. to repair the unit. This repair will most likely cost around 250.00.
