I have looked on this site and have used a couple of methods that were recomended here to fix my problem. My problem is, is that my head sets mic doesnt pic up any sound. The Microphone doesn't work. For my game i use a thing called ventrilo. It tells me wether or not i have a microphone plugged in or not. when i enter into ventrilo it tells me i dont have a mic. I hear sounds and everything fine but it willnot pic up my voice. At first it didnt work at all. After i went into control panel-> sounds and audio devices and did what one of your answerd questions told me i had to scream to get it to have one little green bar on the mic testing. I have the volume all the way up. can you help me? sorry for it so long but it would be easier to not go through any complitactions. Thank you, Hayley N. Clements

I am sorry to say but I think that perhaps your Microphone is faulty? These headset leads are notorious for breaking. If you know how to use a meter, perhaps you could check the circuit, and "see" if there is a Microphone attached? Could you "Test" it on another PC? But if this isn't the case below are some helpful links.. I "Googled" this --->troubleshooting microphone problems xp? http://support.plato.com/kb/tip.asp?psid=26055 www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/speech_setup_microphone.mspx

SOURCE: I get no sound and my my microphone doesnt work.
1. go to control panel
2. choose "sounds and audio devices"
3. choose the "audio" tab
4. there are "default device" for "sound playback" and "sound recording", change both to logitech usb headset"
you then effectively enable the headset and disable the speakers. and the sound will remain on the headset after unplug and replug.

Your logitech will not fix your C-Media CM6501driver.
det60,
Does your sound function? Can you hear sound through speakers or headset?
You did the right thing by testing the mic in control panel, audio device. Lets look at one other place.
Open control panel than open system. Click the hardware tab & than click device manager button. Scroll down to Sound, video and game controller. Click the + sign. Do you see a yellow ! point? If you do see the yellow ! point than you need to reinstall your sound driver software. Or better yet download the latest audio driver for your board from Asus web site listed at the link posted here: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=M2N-E%20SLI&SLanguage=en-us
CMedia beta driver. Version: V5.12.8.1802
If there was no yellow ! point than your audio chip is defective.
Your audio & mic are intergrated into the board. The audio chip controlls both audio & mic. This is a very common break down for Asus boards, (made in China).
Your board was made in 2006 & it's warranted for three years.
You have two choices.
1. You can buy a PCI sound card & install that into your system.
You'll have to turn off the intergrated audio in the bios as well.
2. You will have to call Asus & talk with the tech dept.
812-282-2787 IL EST
A tech will ask you for the serial no# located on a white sticker on your pink printer port Lpt-1. The tech will have you re-run the test you preformed (setting up the mic). Than they will issue you a case no#.
Than you'll have to call CA, RMA dept. 510-739-3777
You give the RMA dept your case no#. They email you instructions. You pay to ship your board to Asus tech IL.
Than around 10 working days they'll ship (free) it back to you (replaced with another board), but working.
Same model no#, different serial no#.
(I so hate giving out bad news!)
The choice is your's.
Good luck & best wishes

SOURCE: Microphone(MIC)Of head set not working(got removed wrongly)
This usually just gets reinstalled whenever you restart your computer be it Vista or XP. In your case, the drivers for the Microphone probably got deleted. The Microphone driver comes in the package together with the sound card. You'll have to re-install the whole sound card driver to have it start working again. You can do this from the Device Manager. After doing this, the microphone together with the whole sound card drivers should start working again.
