Most sets its done in the setup menu--select if cable or antenna and then select auto program, set will scan and store all available channels it can find.

My tv keeps telling me to run a channel scan, how do you do this while using a Direct tv remote?

I'm not sure why your TV wants you to do that, but you would have to use the TV remote. You're Direct TV box is responsible for your channel lineup, and I would be using the component or HDMI connections to get the best picture, not the RF or coaxial connector.

My screen keeps telling me to auto scan channels?

This is for basic cable TV. If you have basic cable, go ahead and let it scan channels. If you have digital cable or anything else and use a INPUT or HDMI or RCA to watch TV then just ignore the scan channels prompt as you have a cable box that handles all that for you.

well, did you perform the auto scan? the auto scan "scans" through channels and needs to be done.

Channel scanning fucntion won't work on my new Oregon Scientific TP329 Two Way Radio. Keeps scanning without finding a valid signal. The radio works when I set the channel randomly but so far I can't find...

Make sure there is a transmitter "on" somewhere along the way, otherwise it would not stop scanning. Try keeping the PTT pushed on the other set whilst you scan.

Freeview box

After scanning the box should save the channel automatically. If the box does not save the preset after scanning channels, then it is probably faulty.
Some box has a pinhole reset button at the back, if you have this reset button keep it pressed with a pencil for 10 seconds to reset the freeview box.
If it does not work, the nbox is probably faulty.

With freeview you only pay for few scrambled channels, the most of them are free and do not need any additional fee.

Freeview is not available in all areas, check that you have freeview in your location, and that aerial is well connected to the box, otherwise not finding channels is normal.
