I want to backup all the data I have on the HDD in my LG DVD recorder. The DVD laser is not working so I can't burn it. How can I connect the LG to external HD or computer and transfer all the films? Thanks,
DVD recorders are usually not the first selection for backup of data files. you may be better off with a 1 Tbyte external drive, which is suited for that purpose. Even though the DVD drive has the capacity, there are usually formatting issues with data files being burned to a DVD recorder.

well firstly if u wana recover ur data u have to make the external hdd power up but thats the major area of issue that its not powering up. the difference in plug doesnt make a difference cuz u can use the same plug,the voltage is same thorugh out in ur place from the substation. so it might be a possibility that when u connected ur hdd,the power ON/OFF switch was awredy ON IF hdd has one. so wat i feel is dat u can try opening the hdd and then connect the hdd to ur desktop with help of the BUS CABLE used to connect the HDDs in desktops. so in dat case i would suggest that u go through the manual of ur external hdd to see how to access the the casing in which the hdd is there.then if u happen to get thorugh n it turns on then u dont have to recover ur data. it would still be there. HOWEVER,its recommended that u dont try these things personaaly if u are'nt too tech savy. u shud consult a tech or a freind who knows abt this.

You can try opening the device manager in Window XP and uninstall the external hard disk (make sure you show unplugged devices).
Then replug the drive again, and it should reinstall the drivers.

You probably still need to partition it, before you can even format it.
Try the disk manager in Windows.
In the start menu, right-click "My Computer" and in the popup menu, select "Manage".
One computer management comes up, select disk management and there you should see the disk. You can then create a partition and format it.

A common issue...I'm sure your hard drive is working fine, Windows is just not giving it an unused drive letter.
1. Insert the device (camera or usb drive)
2. Right-click "My Computer" and select "Manage".
3. Click on "Disk Management"
4. Right-click the item in the list that looks like your camera or usb drive, and then click "Change Drive Letter and Paths."
5. Click "Change".
6. Give it a drive letter that is not being used.
7. Click OK.
The device should work instantly after that.
