Loud Thump each time the Drum Rotates

Hello,
It looks like I'm at least the 2nd person with this similar problem with this model. My only guess is that maybe too heavy of a load was dried once or twice and now this loud thumping noise is a constant. Each time the drum turns, it sounds like a brick is falling inside the drum.
Can anyone let me know what this really is and how it can be fixed? I have the same problem, the 1st time the drum weld opened up and the crack was hitting the rollers. The tech. replaced the drum and rollers. The 2nd service call was because the dryer wasn't drying well and the noise was back but even louder. So they replaced the thermostat and the drum. At that time the tech said he didn't like the condition of the replacement drum so he would order a new one. A couple of weeks later the tech delivered and installed the replacement drum once again. The 3rd service was because the noise was back and in addition to that the external felt from which the drum rides on had split. So that long strips of felt were now whipping the clothes while they dry and leaving black markings on them. I am now going to call for a additional service because the noise has once again returned. The only thing it seems I did right when purchasing this washer and dry was to also purchase the extended warranty. This will expire soon and I have not received any notice from the company to new the warranty. Boy I wonder why?????????????

I had a thump also, The tech replaced the rollers with an upgraded material this helped for a while. I now have a cracked drum right at the seam/weld. Not sure if the roller was the start to the crack?? Going to give LG a call about coverage for new drum as I am out of warentee.

A new drum and rollers should have solved this issue. The rollers were upgraded to have a harder rubber consistency about 1 year ago. Ensure that the technician did not use old stock parts. The new, updated rollers should have a blue dot on them. As for a cracked drum weld, this would be a defective part. Make sure to call LG customer service to have the issue documented so that there will be a history. This way, even when your unit goes out of warranty they will have records of the service and the repairs should still be covered for sometime.

I have a thumping sound in my dryer we put in new belt and wheels what can it be?

what's the brand name and model number?when it spins if you hear a thump thump as it spins that could just be the drum where the rollers hit it,i've heard that alot of times in dryers,i wouldn't worry about it,if it heats and spins and it doesn't sound like metal on metal or not making a real loud noise it's most likely just the drum, could be a little out of round and when the rollers ride on it you hear thump thump then when it spins you hear it again it will be fine, look at the drum, you might see some black stuff on it where the rollers ride on it,you can try cleaning it up it might help but i wouldn't worry about it.

LG DLE5977W THUMP DRUM WAS CRACKED-REPLACED FROM APP.PARTS.COM NEW DRUM OUT OF ROUND.SENT NEW DRUM SAME THUMP.REPLACED ONE ROLLER I SAW WAS BAD-SAME THUMP.REPLACED OTHER THREE ROLLERS-SAME THUMP.HELP

Anything is possible but I doubt 2 drums are bad. Since you replaced all the rollers and I assume you installed the drum on the rollers properly, i would look at the other drive parts. It might be a bad idler pulley and bearing. That is the small pulley that is spring loaded and puts tension on the belt. Check the complete assembly for any unusual free play that might cause a thump. Also look at the belt itself for any cracks or bumps.

When i turn on the dry it is making a loud Squeaky sound. the dry is still heating, just making loud squeaky sound

Hi an welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
This squeaky sound your hearing is usually the idler pulley, idler pulley shaft, but also can be the motor or the drum roller bearings. Usually if the drum roller bearings are bad the dryer will thump as it rotates.
The idler pulley and lever is and assembly that is item 8 of this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5174194&diagram_id=28598568#d28598568

Since it is squealing at this time when you have the repairs done that you replace the belt that is item 21 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5174194&diagram_id=28598572#d28598572

The motor is item 7 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5174194

I recommend that if you do the repairs that you replace the idler pulley, the drum rollers, and the belt.
Drum rollers are item 17 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5174194&diagram_id=28598572#d28598572 (make sure to check the drum roller shafts that are item 19 of the same link.)

While repairs are being completed also inspect the drum front and rear seals. Thare are items 14 and 26 (Same part number) of the above link.

By doing all of the above you should be able to get many more years of service out of your dryer.

If you need to purchase a service manual for self repair it can be downloaded here for $9.95:

Dryer makes banging sound as drum rotates

The drum rollers are worn out and wobble when moving..it should be more of a thump/thump sound, unless really are almost gone...UNPLUG dryer and raise top...Since no model. i'm going with standard kenmore/whirlpool dryer type. The top has two screws by lint filter..Remove these and raise top...The front can be removed by removing two screws inside each front corner. The door switch must be disconnected at wiring..Remove front and set aside...The drum can be removed after the belt comes off...look down in right rear corner under drum..you will see the belt pulley and you want to see how it goes around pulley to help reinstall..remove belt, there will be tension and make sure you draw yourself a diagram of path of belt to ease install of belt....now once belt is removed, you can pull out drum...there are two drum rollers. They are bad if you roll them and they wobble and make noise. They should be almost quiet when you roll them if they are good..the belt roller can be bad and squeek...check this as well...replace parts and reinstall

Making a loud thump sound

Frigidaire 5.8s dont have roller to support the drum instead they use a machined ball in back sat down in a plastic hub that is cupped to hold it in and covered in grease. the front rides on wear strips on the front panel felt pads. take front off and check these for excessive wear, cracks, etc. then take drum out (remove plastic hook at top center to give clearance) lift up at rear to take out of bearing cup.
if by some chance this is a 7.0 then you should still have a warranty

Kenmore heavy duty

I can only assume by rollers you mean bearings were replaced. Unless your dad measured both the ID Fit of the bearing and the OD fit [ inside diameter and outside diameter of the shaft and housings] new bearings could be on the small side of their tolerance, [new bearings are made to be within a certain amount of "slop" if the new bearing was on the outside tolerance, and the shaft or housing was on the large side of the tolerance, the bearings are still allowing the drum to move, and thump.

OR if belt driven, the alignment of the belt is important, if one pulley is out, and the other in, one shaft will be pulling and the other pushing, again a thump.

Something in the bearing/pulley setup has not been discovered bad yet, it takes micrometers and some knowledge of bearing tolerances to resolve this kind of problem.

Think about it, what can thump in a dryer? The tumbler cage. It is most likely that the journal or housings are wore, second the motor may have a front or rear bearing/ housing the same thing, gone bad,

This machine is old enough I would expect to find a worn housing or shaft, either drum or motor, most likely drum, check the alignment of the belt also, but most likely the thump is not cost effective to repair, plus Dad's time which is invaluable.

Start searching the sale sheets, and reading consumer reports, time for a new energy easy dryer anyway.

You have a problem with your dryer drum.  The seam weld has cracked and the drum needs to be replaced.  You will need to call a qualified LG technician to resolve this issue.

ASKO t700 dryer thumping sound

usually whin you get one thump (or a quick double thump) you have a dent in the roller surface of the drum itself. Easiest way to check this is to unplug the unit and take the top off by removing the 3 torx screws in the rear, then lifting the top off. Once the top is off look at the very front edge of the drum as you rotate the whole thing by hand. If you see any irregularities on the surface, thats your problem. If you see nothing it could be a bad motor or roller, but its unlikely if its happening in the same place on the rotation evry time. What has usually happened with dents in the surface of the drum is that the unit was set down too hard (or dropped) and the wheels it rests on dented the metal they ride on. If thats the case the only solution is to replace the drum or live with it .Good Luck!
