Laptop is connecting to network, but will not connect to internet

I have linksys wireless g with speedbooster wrt54gs and notebook card wpc54gs. I can connect to network with adapter, but it want allow me to get connected to internet. (Icon in tray show network connection to be excellent) I can connect to internet by running cable from laptop to back of router and plugging into ethernet port. Works fine that way, will connect to internet. I have been on linksys chat for longer than I care to mention. What they have suggested has not solved my problem. I have updated firm ware on router to lastest version. Linksys chat person helped me through that. I have also changed IP address on router to be different than factor default in case that might be a conflict. I have changed channel to 11 on router. I have Dell laptop Inspiron 2650 running Windows XP.

HELP!!!!!

Thanks,
Bill

I have completely started over before. I reset router with reset button and started from "scratch". I uninstalled notebook adapter and reinstalled it. I have not done anything to "MAC" settings, or encrypt. I'm not sure what you mean by setting PC to "no settings at all"

I have contacted ISP about MAC address and was told the linksys routers MAC address would have no bearing on connecting to internet through their DSL router. If I can get on internet with cable plugged in to back of linksys router and laptop, then there is an problem between laptop network adapter and linksys router.

Have you tryed to set it to factory default?
go - administration/factory default and say yes.
NOTE, you have to set you PC to the same, like "no settings at all".
Then start all over again, with security, encrypt and MAC settings, but remember "every time you change the lock, do remember to fix the key aswell".

I will gladly help you here, but first get the hole through :-)

/usefull? don't forget to vote :-)

"no settings at all" as in factory deafult :-)

delete you driver for the wireless card, reboot and the OS will reinstall it.

now you should be able to conect to the router and set the security.

No enternet access

Check the wireless router and high-speed modem.

If the two are not powered on, or if the Ethernet cable connected the two is not completely inserted into both connection ports, you are unable to access the Internet on the Acer Aspire One laptop computer.

Activate the wireless Internet connection on the laptop computer.

Right-click the wireless icon on the desktop, then choose "Enable" from the pop-up menu.

Without activating the wireless receiver on the Acer Aspire One, the laptop is unable to detect any wireless network.

Select the appropriate network you wish to connect to.

Your computer may be attempting to connect to a different Internet connection, preventing you from access the network you desire.

Right-click the wireless icon, select "Search for available wireless networks," then choose the network you want to access.

Restart the computer.

The system may have booted and failed to detect the wireless receiver.

Restarting the computer corrects this issue.

hope this helps

Card is inactive

You might want to make sure that your wireless adapter is enabled. Depending on what operating system you will need to go into your network connections area and enable it.If you have a laptop make sure that the switch has been turned on. It is usually located on the front side of the laptop.

Internet connectivity or lack of...

You can try to do a System Restore on windows. This usually solves wireless connectivity problems. Just choose a restore point on a time where it was still working. Click on the link below for step by step instructions on using System Restore.

Linksys WPC54GS adapter card not connecting with wireless router

for one you could try and manually connect to the network by clicking site survey then choose your network on the list then connect. make sure to adjust the channel of your router to 11.

another option is to right click the green icon on the lower right corner of the screen down by the time/clock. the linksys icon green icon that has waves on it, right click then choose use windows wireless zero configuration. then confirm it by presing yes.

an icon that look like 2 small computers will apear at the system tray just right that then view available wireles network then connect to your network.

Linksys WPC54GS wireless adapter installation issue

There's a possibility that the adapter is defective. However, you may still try the following:

1. Make sure to uninstall the software if you still have it installed. Remove it from the Programs list or under Add/Remove Programs.
2. Check Device Manager and make sure adapter is not under Network Adapters nor Other Devices. It might be called Network Controller if driver is not installed correctly.
3. Unplug card, shutdown computer and when PC is powered off, plug card back and restart computer. You may insert the CD on this process, but do not run/continue the CD setup wizard.
4. When computer is back on, you should get a Found New Hardware bubble message or wizard.

Just finish the wizard and tell me how it went. Goodluck!

It sounds like you may have a band PCMCIA slot. Have you attempted to use any other expansion cards in it to test this theory?
