Unfortunately, there is no yellow plug. Also, we're not sure what the progressive scan is on the game console, or how to turn it off. :-( I know this is in the wrong place...i'm not technically gifted!! :-(
The cable ends you mention are component for high definition, but normally have 6 ends, if you are high def you have to use them all, if not you use RED,WHITE and YELLOW.
Apologies if not correct as US leads may differ from UK.The cable ends you mention are component for high definition, but normally have 6 ends, if you are high def you have to use them all, if not you use RED,WHITE and YELLOW.

Don't rate me badly for this, because this most likly is wrong, but try adjusting the TV Settings. It depends on the TV you are using and input cords (take a look at how firmly the input cords are) but try pressing menu then picture qualitity.
Hope it works

Unless you want to colorize them by hand, there's no way to add color to black and white photos. Given a black and white photo showing a person in a gray dress, how do you know whether the dress was blue or red or some other color?
There are three types of display settings. 1 PAL, 2, NTSC and 3, Auto.
The
pal and auto makes a display show color while the NTSC allow a display
show in black and white but sometimes NTSC also shows color. It is
possible that the display format on the movie is NTSC.
To fix
this problem, play the movie that shows black and white. When the movie
shows in black and white, press PAL/NTSC or P/N on the remote control
and it should display in color.
Or Go to the player menu, check video or display setting, change it to Auto.
Problem should be fixed because that's where it lies....
But if it doesn't solve the problem, please let me know so that I may direct you further on what next to do.
I had the same problem. I fixed it by changing system settings, there is somewhere on the console where you can choose between two differant colour options. have a look around and try changing it on the ps itself.
what video device do you plug in to your TV screen, DVD player/VCR or game console?
If you still have the owners manual of your TV screen, look for instruction regarding Color system or video system. this menu will allow you to change color sytem from PAL to NTSC or AUTO system. most likely the reason why you have a black and white color from vidoe input is because of system color compatibilty from your input device to your screen.
Or if your using a dvd player, you can also try accessing the "setup" button and look for video setting. from the video setting there will be selection to choose from: PAL , NTSC, AUTO . always select "auto" so that the color system of your DVD player can change from PAL to NTSC deffending on your TV screen system setup.
Screen works you get a black and white image.
The colour stage works you get colour output to TV
So my guess is the ribbon connector from motherboard to screen is loose or adrift.
Is this something you fell you can fix or 'know a man that can?'
It seems that you have get the color system setting of your Tv wrong. Sony uses the Pal(it's a format for the transmission of signals) color system , so check into your TV's color system settings and change it to pal , if that doesnt work then change it to Ntsc.
