RCA 46" Rear Projection TV - Picture is Blurry and RED
I have an older RCA Rear Projection TV. It has a Wood case and the PICTURE is really bad. I have adjusted the colors on the back of the TV to show the best. And it looks fine. But after I turn it off. Then if looses the setting's. Then I have to adjust it again. Please any information would be wonderful. I have taken off the back of the TV. I can see where there are 6 adjusting on the right side. When I turn them the picture does get better. But I do not want to have to do this each time I turn it on.
I just want to get he picture where it will not need to be adjusted each time i turn on the TV.

That sounds like the screen and focus controls you are adjusting. It sounds like you have a bad HV Splitter inside the TV.
Depending on your model number.
sells them for about 20 bucks.

If this problem has been gradually getting worse, it is most likely to your picture tubes getting weak, and it is time to replace the set I'm afraid.
If the red is smearing off to the side of reddish objects in the picture it is most definately the tubes.
If the red, green, and blue colors are separated like a rainbow, then the convergence amps are going out. This set has a common problem of two electrolytic caps going bad. The caps are in the upper left-hand corner of the main board and will have a bulged top if bad.
I would not think the picture tubes are bad, especially all at once.
Find a large rifle and put it out of its misery. Bowing is either from a problem in the pincushion correction circuit or the convergence circuit. Blurry picture or poor color rendition is most likely bad CRTs ( picture tubes)
First, this assumes nothing else is going on to cause it. Here's what I did. Go to the 'green grid' via the v76 menu and go through the alignment there. Notice that there are red letters, blue letters, and a green grid. While you are in this screen, adjust the red, green, and blue focus watching the individual color's item until they are in focus. If they won't focus here, they won't focus and you have something else wrong (what I do not know). Then, return to normal programming, then select menu on the remote, then screen, then adjust projection tv convergence both horizontal and vertical crosshare. That ought to get it.
Wally, 2 things can cause that, 1) bad solder on red driver transistor (mounted on Red picture tube board) 2) bad red cathode in the red tube which means big bucks (new tube), may not even be available on that old of a set. Hope this helps BMW Rider
