Question about Akai PTH5498 54" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
When you can't move a color (Red or Blue) in your convergence settings, the STK Amplifier IC is bad for that color. That is the main way to tell if an STK IC is bad.

My cousin had this same problem and had me fix it for him. As I have found in most forums, it is a problem with the amplifier IC's., There are two of them with 3 channels each. The part number for them is STK392-040, at least in my cousin's case, check yours it will be printed right on the chip. The IC's are ~ $10/each, and shipping was $9 here: http://www.smelectronic.com/1/STK0_STK5/semicon.htm If you know how to solder, or know someone else that does, its fairly straight forward. Just pull the convergence board out of the TV, unsolder the IC, using some solder wick or a solder sucker, both available at radio shack. Next remove the ICs, you may have to use a knife or screwdriver to pry them off of the heatsink. Then put the new ICs in and solder them in place. Put all the screws back in, run the auto-convergence, maybe twice, and you're golden. Note: in my cousins case all of the resistors were fine, but you should check them to make sure none have shorted or opened.
