Question about Pioneer SD-P50A5-K 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Remot quit after having stk chips replaced the use of the remote has gone. works in manual mode from front panel assembly. checked over wiring for a misplased connector but none found. what is the procedure to get into service mode. the micro must have triggered a demo mode that disengaged the remote ir sensor. hitachi has this feature so maybe pioneer does also. thanks.

Toshiba tp50g90 projection tv, red flashing light won't turn on

FYI: WHOEVER told you 110 chips can be replaced with 120 chips is wrong.

Easy way at this point to way at this point to see if chips are the problem is to UNSOLDER AND REMOVE BOTH CHIPS. Make sure not shorted connections and power set up---set will function without the chips but look terrible.

Try Suburban Electronics for the correct chips----only safe replacement for them is the 150 chip----stk-392-110 and stk-392-120 are not interchangeable.

The blinking light indicates a short.

LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS AS I HAVE FIXED hundreds OF THESE SETS.

I have a KDP51ws550 tv that has convergence problems. Flash focus would not work and neither would manual convergence. I replaced the both convergence ICs and checked the pico fuses, turned the unit back...

Check your soldering. Check the vertical power board on the far left when looking from the back. It has fuses on it as well.

Depending on quality of STK chips, they could have been bad or failed right away. Best things is to look at the schematic, verify what colors you can move and see which STK chip is not functioning.

If both chips are not function after replacement, likely a fuse. Be sure to verify the resistors next to the STK chips.

Magic focus does not eliminate the red background to white letters. Can I adjust it manually?

If you have the original remote you can remove the speaker grill and push the tiny blue button to engage the decam convergence mode and adjust the set with the Hitachi remote.

Usually, if magic focus will not improve convergence one of the two convergence chips the set uses (usually STK-392-110) IS BAD.

I can provide the instructions for adjusting in the decam mode but it sounds like you have a bad ic.

Replacing the chips could be a do it yourself repair and I am prepared to assist you from start to finish. Total parts cost on EBAY would be under 25 dollars--I know a seller I use.

I can tell you where to look to identify which chips are in your set------they are mounted on a large heat sink or two sinks side by side with metal fins. The chips are black and will have the STK number printed on the front of them in white letters.

Let me know how you want to proceed and if this information was helpful rate it as "very helpful" as I do this here for free.

I am here to help you.

Manual Convergence adjustment on Hitachi 43UWX10B

I would guess you missed a open resistor--there are only about 12 of them--how did you check them?

This set (43uwx10b) has a tiny blue micro switch on the front of the chassis---if you engage it from the front the set will go into the DECAM or convergence mode--let me know the CLU number on your original remote and I will scan and paste instructions---98% of the time if the set is wacked out and will not adjust one of the resistors is gone---ONE OF THE CHIPS GETS THEM.

Hitachi convergence seems to be bad, but all resistors check in spec's can you check ic's the cross hach lines will move in all directions but some are bent

I know this set very well, have fixed hundreds of Hitachi sets with convergence problems--

first--did you just go into the customer menu?

There are two ways to get into the tech convergence mode on most of these sets---if the set has "MAGIC FOCUS" PRESS the button the front panel---while magic focus is running press magic focus again --if STOP is displayed on the screen press either RECALL OR STATUS BUTTON ON THE REMOTE--set will go to the tech convergence mode--take a good look there ---if red or blue is skewed most likely one or both of the 2 STK-392-110 CHIPS THIS SET USES IS BAD--NO WAY TO TEST THEM--IF RESISTORS ARE ALL GOOD--you have to replace BOTH chips to see if one is your problem.

You can also get into the tech convergence mode by removing the front speaker grill and inspection plate behind it----there is a tiny micro switch on the front of the board (little blue button) with something not metal--touch it with the set on and you will be in the convergence mode.

I presume you know how to navigate with the remote in this mode 2,4,6.8 to move--ant to select blue and 0 to select red---enter button will stop blinking cursor and you use the ARROW CURSORS to adjust---DO NOT TOUCH ANY OTHER BUTTONS---

What you are looking for is will the "bent" lines adjust.

If the answer is no--change the two chips and see what you have--The STK-392-110 chips can also be replaced with STK-392-150 chips---they are a longer life version of the original chip.

If you need help doing the repair ask me before you begin.

I'm pretty sure the convergance chip is out. My problem is that I do not have the original remote. I have one made by Dynatron. I can't figure out which button is equilivant to Status, or ANT. Help please.

Almost any remote will work for this set if it is Hitachi--understand----if you have one of the two STK-392-120 CHIPS THAT THIS MODEL USES BAD--It will not adjust....

All of the Hitachi remotes will work but different ones use different buttons in the convergence mode--if the model is 43fwx20b it uses a Hitachi remote with the number CLU-4321UG... printed on the front of it.

If you get a different Hitachi remote let me know--I have a book from Hitachi that shows most of the remotes by number and photo and shows which buttons do what in convergence.

Let me know if you need to know how to replace the chips-----usually you can get a remote for this type of set pretty cheap on Ebay.....

GE 46GW947 BOWED PIC

the manual is almost impossible to find. But that chassis usually only has 1 IC that powers the convergence. Usually a STK730-020 or simallar. post the number off the IC you see up front and I will cross reference it for you and post a link where you can get a replacement

Remote

The remote sensor assembly on the front panel of the amp will need to be replaced. It is the small tin shielded box with 3 wires connecting to it(behind the remote sensor window). Check that the sensor has still has 5 volts to it before removing. Some models have a 5 v reg IC on the front panel to run the sensor
