Can the software of a 5000 series truck route be installed on the 255W model

Yes and you may be able to download a map for free , if the unit has never been registered with Garmin.

The Nuvi 2xxW series has a limited internal memory and the latest maps are fairly large in size and may not fit on the units internal memory. The map may have to go on an SD card.

The no detailed maps warning would have come up on the screen at the store as well.

To update the software for your unit, free of charge, follow these instructions:

1. Go to http://www.garmin.com/products/webupdater, and download WebUpdater to your computer.
2. Connect the GPS unit to your computer using the Mini-USB cable.
3. Run WebUpdater and follow the on-screen instructions.

After confirming that you want to the update, WebUpdater will automatically download the update and install it on your device.

Reboot your GPS receiver, and you should have the latest updated software from Garmin.

sounds like the map folder in the gps software got corrupted. you will have to connect your device to your computer, get on the Garmin website, and let the garmin site update your device. Once updated, it will re-install the correct folders and maps to their proper place. the gps should work as before after that.

What happens after that screen is that the operating system is loading, I would say that the software is corrupt. Garmin will be able to walk you through reloading the software.

The 'wt'-model includes a traffic module, which gives you information in real time about the traffic along the route and can suggest alternative routes based on delays etc.

Mapsource comes on a cd and is just installed like any other program. Then you access it from the start menu. Once you make your routes or poi's you connect the nuvi with the usb cable and upload.

You should be able to set your journey "via" a specific place. Im not sure it wil work with via m5 though. I just let it rerout itself when I get on the m5. The other option is to plan your route "avoiding" ceretain places. Is there an option to save your route if you travel that way?
