Dead Harddrive I need help... My hard drive had been working fine until last week. I turned it on and nothing happened! Nothing. It is plugged in, all connections are connected as normal...but it is not turning on at all. I tried it at a different computer at a different location, and still nothing. Any ideas on what I should do?? Of course, it is my ultimate back up. ALL my pics, music, important documents... please help!

Hi, sounds like your board on the hard drive is gone, only thing you can do is get a old hard drive the same and take the board off there and replace it, or send it away to the maxtor, western digital etc depending the make and they can take your photos off for a price aint sure how much. All the best John

My acer netbook 532h will not power on. just before problem the power on button stayed on and nothing happened; battery was pulled to turn unit off. unit has a blue light under the light bulb icon turn...

Two things to try first before we go further with the diagnosis:
1. Try to power up the netbook with the external hard drive disconnected & see if it will work.
2. Try powering up the netbook from the AC adapter only with the battery removed.

I have one 1TB Freeagent hard drive and it was working just fine, until one day it just disappears from my pc and i cant get it to work.I plugged the power cord off, waited for a few seconds, plugged it back...

First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine. try it in different usb ports. Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter. Then restart computer then check. Try your harddrive in different computer if it is not recognized on another computer too then your harddrive has internal issue.

My WD Mybook TByte HD is not being recognized

There could be many reasons, but I had the same issues.
It turns out I had mistakingly swapped the 12v DC PSU with another one, the drive would light up, it would click but that was it. Nothing. Gave me the runaround for ages. Seems they need more current than the little PSU I was trying could deliver, so I swapped it for a 2 amp supply and it works fine.

My external hard drive won't turn on

Ok, this just happened to me, my western digital my book studio external drive was not booting up, i could hear the disk spinning, but it would then cut out and the light on the drive was never turning on. i called Western Digital customer support and found out that the proper way to connect a drive is to plug in the power cable FIRST then the data cable. Also, with the My Book Studio Edition you should never have to press the power button, the drive just turns on when you plug it in. Hope this helps somebody...
