I have a 5th generation ipod. When I go into the playlist or songs or recently played to chose a song to listen to I pick one and press play and the ipod immediately starts running through all the play list - without playing any thing and then goes back to main menu. Is there a fix for this or do I need repair?
Try to restore and reload the device first. This will also happen if the iPod's internal database has become 'corrupt' as Stonehenge mentioned. This can often happen if you are using older third party software to load the iPod. Does this occur after you use this kind of software? (Anapod, Winamp, etc.)
The songs are currupt, my 4th gen used to do that. reload the songs in itunes, restore factory settings to the ipod with iTunes 7.1, and that should solve your problem
Good luck!
I ran into the same problem about a month back. I tried everything to fix it. I finally brought it into the Apple Store and they said something inside the iPod was fried and they didnt have the tools to open it up and fix it righ there. They guy just gave me a new one for $32 (a battery recycle fee) I didnt have a warrenty but it was less then a year old. MY suggestion is to bring it in and see if they can fix it but more then likely your going to need a reapair.

The iPod's shuffle feature lets you randomize playback of albums, songs or even your entire music library. You may also find this feature useful if you want to listen to forgotten tracks in your library or discover songs you haven't listened to yet. Disabling the shuffle feature will return playback of a song list to its standard consecutive order. You can enable and disable the shuffle feature at any time.
Navigate to the main menu. Select "Settings." Scroll to the "Shuffle" option. Select "Songs" or "Albums." If you select "Songs," the iPod Classic will shuffle the songs on whatever song list you listen to. If you select "Albums," the iPod Classic will play all songs of an album you select in order and then randomly select another album. Navigate to the playlist or album to which you want to listen. Play a song to initiate the shuffle. b> iPod Nano and iPod Touch Tap the "Songs" icon on your nano home screen. If you are using an iPod Touch, open the "iPod" application. Navigate to the song list, playlist or album you want to play. Tap the "Shuffle" icon at the top of the list to activate the feature.

Hook up your mp3 player to your computer Go to your desktop and double left click on "My Computer" When it opens you will see listing that says "Devices with Removal Storage" your mp3 player should be listed there. Right click on your mp3 player, and a window will open, right click on "Open" and now your files/songs should be visible. Hold the left click down and drag it across all the files/songs that you do not want this will highlight the files/songs you do not want, release, right click and then click on "Delete" Now you mp3 player should be clear of the files/songs you do not want. Hey press the play pause button and the enter button at the same time if it has a lock move it baca and forte 6 times while holding play pause button and enter/centered button for 6 seconds, that should solve from freezing ipods to non functioning well :)
after you create your playlist and you select a song from inside that playlist when you hit shuffle it will shuffle that playlist only. some models have an option that may need to be set for shuffle playlist only as well. hope this helps! let me know
You will need to wipe it clean then put all your songs back into it. Try using a different computer and then put iTunes on it and that should erase it all and then just load your Ipod back up with your music. What happens is that if the Ipod can't read the song, it stutters, tries to play that part, and sometimes skips songs.
how do i restore my ipod to factory settings
