The TV plays fine on all channels, but DVDs only come in black and white. No inputs I assume means the color streams through the cable connection. Is there anything that can be done when connecting the DVD to the TV that will allow us to watch DVDs in color?
SOURCE: I can only record and play back in black and white.
siri,
for the black and white screen output of your DVD and VCR.
1) for DVD player: using remote control locate "setup" button and click.a dialogue box should appear indicating " audio setup" video setup" etc.....
2) select and scroll to "video setup". in video setup there should be an option to choose "AUTO" "PAL" or "NTSC"
3) choose "auto" then check if any change in screen color.
for VCR, locate a switch or button indicating "PAL" "Auto""PAL SECAM" "NTSC". same with the dvd choose and select "auto"
note: if you still have the manual for both VCR and DVD check the instruction with regards to video color setting.
cheers,
mark

SOURCE: change input source for philips magnavox
use the up/down channel until you get to the input you have connected. You did not say you had a remote so i am using the standard fix for this.

SOURCE: DVD PLAYS THE MOVIES BLACK AND WHITE
This is usually associated with trying to play NTSC formatted DVD's on this PAL player. As you might not know even if the unit is set region free (Region Code 0) the movie is still encoded for NTSC.
You can also get this problem if you are using S-Video plug with a SCART Adapter and the switch is set to output instead of input something to do with the internal pins. I recommend using SCART to SCART or HDMI if you have it

SOURCE: inherited a flat screen tv without remote. cannot
You need to invest in a univeral controller. You can either order one onlne or go to a local store and purchase one. The controller instructions will give you the correct codes to access your TV controls. I don't understand your comment about black and white on the DVD player. Are you having problems hooking up the DVD to the TV? Most problems will be cleared up after you get a remote. If you need a user manual for the TV let me know the model number and we can find the correct source. Thanks.
