FM Traffic Provider database missing

Error message: FM Traffic Provider database missing. Unit will not display maps as normal, but shows only a dotted line on a blank screen. Also will not allow destination input.

I tried doing an update but that didn't help. Then, I talked to a Garmin Tech for 30 min+ and still couldn't solve the glitch. He set up the process to return the unit to the company and a new one should be headed my way in 10-14 days. The tech was most helpful and spent a lot of time working on the problem.

I kind of suspected that it would need to be sent in, but thought if you could get the webupdater to run - things would be good. It looks like you'll be back in business again soon.

I suggest you try resetting the device by following the instructions in the owner's manual. If the issue persists, it may be due to an error in the map database. You can try reinstalling the maps to the memory card after unlocking them for your device. If you are still experiencing issues, please contact Garmin Product Support for further assistance .

I believe in that unit the traffic receiver is in the power cord, where it plugs into the car socket. Make sure you're using the right cord (one that has a traffic receiver in it), and that it's plugged in - should show a green light where it's plugged into the car.

I just bought the garmin nuvi 265wt. I tried to activate the free lifetime traffic that comes with the unit but when I touched the screen to enable the traffic it told me I first must go to www.garmin/fm...

Check the information that came in your box. With my TomTom Lifetime Traffic and Maps, there was an "activation" number on one sheet of paper. I had to activate (per instructions) before I could enable the lifetime goodies.

Keeps displaying message database error please reconnect to pc

The first thing I would do is charge the battery fully. Just leave in the cradle overnight. Next, do a blank sync with mtrip (just sync with no files selected). If you're still showing the database error, reflash the firmware and start over. If you're still showing the empty battery...buy a new battery. They're available on ebay.

First make sure the batteries are good and at normal room temperature.
Second, based on your question your touch screen is bad or needs calibrating....
Then
Try to recalibrate your screen:
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} To recalibrate the touchscreen on your nuvi 200 series follow the steps below:
  1. Have the unit turned OFF and unplugged from power.
  2. Slide the power switch to the ON position and hold for about 45 seconds.
  3. A message will display on the screen: Press Dot.
  4. Once this message displays, release the Power button.
  5. Press in the center of the Dot.
  6. Keep pressing in the center of the Dot as it moves around the screen.
  7. Once this is complete, there will be a message: Calibration Complete.
  8. Touch Ok and the unit will restart.
The touchscreen will now be recalibrated.
*Note if unit is running software version 6.00 or newer you will want to follow steps from below.

Display reads no detailed maps found that support routing.

Try a Master Reset:
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} To perform a Master Reset on the nuvi 2xx series device:
Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings. But who cares if you have problems, right?
  1. Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power
  2. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
  3. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON
  4. Release the power button when the device powers ON
    • You will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?
  5. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays
  6. Touch Yes
The device will automatically reset. Follow the on screen prompts then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

Garmin 265WT - fm traffic

I called Garmin about the same issue. If you will turn it on and are in one of the 50 metro areas covered it will automatically receive trraffic updates. That is exactly what I did and it worked and I got the same message you did. You do NOT have to sign up, get a code, or anything. Just turn it on in one of the areas and watch for the traffic symbol on the uper left hand side.
