I've had the player for about 2 years and I just am having this problem for the first time now. Same fix worked for me. Unscrew back panel, take out the battery, and then put it back in. Started right up.

Great! Hooking my e270 up to my stereo I shocked it. There were some tunes that I only had stored on there, nowhere else. I thought I would have to lose them if I ever got it to turn on at all. But sure enough, I took the battery out and put it right back in and all works well - all the tunes are there.
Thanks so much! Yes, the solution above helped me. Before, my sansa didn't turn on, and i unscrewed it and did exactly what the person above told me to. Thanks
I had the same problem. I just bought one for myself and used it for an hour while turning it off and on successfully about 5 times, and then it just stayed on. It was on for 5 hours stuck in the same position , frozen in time, until I could get home. I unscrewed the back, took the battery out, put it back in and now it seems to work normal. Hope you tried to do that. I think it will fix it. Hopefully it's not an ongoign problem. I've only had mine for one day so far.

Make sure your connecting cable is working ok. The sansa should say connecting when plugged in. If it doesn't say that try wiggling the cord. Make sure it's plugged into the sansa all the way.
mine is SanDisk SDMX4-2048-A70 Sansa e250 2 GB MP3 Player with microSD Expansion Slot and it stopped working when i unplugged it from the pc before i started to download things but any ways u know how u can lock it well i have to push a button to start it. so i had it on lock and held the button down for like 20 sec's counting slow, then that didnt work so i put it back on lock and held it again for 20 sec's again and it worked!! it turned on then i had to unlock to turn it back on to use it again!!! yeah!!! so give that a try...
i know i have to charge my sansa for at least 7-8 hours before the battery will show it is full. about your other problem, i believe there is an option under the settings menu to automatically shut your sansa off. If not then you can turn off the backlight and that will save alot of battery life.
