it should not be. Are you getting audio signal levels on the ADVC-300? I think it may be a connection problem. I always get audio from vhs, even through a camera or hdv deck. Never mind a converter box.

Most Laptops have a small slide switch on the outside edge of the computer to allow the wifi "card" to be turned off manually. Look on the edges of the laptop case for a small slide or button with the wireless icon on it.
i love a well informed person with computers. so many people post here and don' t give any other information; and for that i thank and congratulate you. now for your resolution.
i have read up on this particular unit and with this one i have found several hundred issues with the quality. especially when viewing on larger LCD screens.
knowing this, i suggest the upgraded model.
Canopus ADVC 300 Analog / Digital Video Converter......http://www.firewire-1394.com/canopus-advc-300.htm now with that said you mentioned you have a pinnacle av/dv card. my question involves the issue with your firewire. on most cards of this nature they want to be "alone". meaning that the card wants to be in a pci slot to itself with no neighbors. i suggest putting it in the very first slot available to avoid this and then putting your other cards in the remaining slots. this card you are using is also a little outdated. here is a better card....http://cgi.ebay.com/Compro-Videomate-C500-PCI-DV-Analog-Capture-Card-2-/170586107840?pt=AU_Components&hash=item27b7b96fc0#ht_1080wt_905

audio card enables your computer to play music with headphone. todays computer have inbuilt audio card in them.however if your computer don't have in built one ,or u want to upgrade your sound playing capabilities of your system, u can install it. There are basically 3 types of sound card in your system 1.audio (sound)card in *********** board 2.internal 3.external sound cards. mother board sound card can't be removed. However u can install internal and external audio cards and dissable motherboard sound.External card connect via USB.
Make sure when the computer first starts up that you enter the setup BIOS( by either hitting f2, Delete, or whatever for you specific computer and there should be setting on one of the pages to either enable or dissable onboard sound. Sound cards don't interact good with anything else that is in your computer or anything that you may have recently installed such as an add in usb card, ethernet card, whatever. But you basically need to find out where your sound is coming from. An adapter card or onboard. I highly doubt you fried anything. But if so there are ways around that so don't despair. Get back with me if you need to a give me some more indepth info on your computer. Thanks

Sounds like you're feeding the ADVC the wrong broadcast format. Either PAL when the ADVC is in NTSC mode, or NTSC when the ADVC is in PAL mode.
Alternatively, your capture software may have a broadcast format setting as well, and that may not be matching what the ADVC is sending out. Remember that the ADVC does not do NTSC<->PAL format conversion, so NTSC analog input becomes NTSC DV, and PAL analog input becomes PAL DV.
May i suggest that if the Canopus is stuck and both lights are on it may well be faulty but try this first.
slowly insert the fire wire into the back of the Canopus slowly does it when one light comes on stop inserting the fire wire and press input select till the lighth moves to the other side in my experiance digital to anolog, this may take a fiew goes and seem primative but it has worked for me and then eventialy the canopus corrects its self if this has been helpful please put a pound in the charity box of your choice and email [email protected] just to let me know good luck bye.
There must be a motherboard failure at the network adapter, because if there is non showing, even with an exclamation mark then there is according to XP no network adapter fitted.
Go into the bios (press F2 or Del on start up) and when in the cmos settings, go to advanced and look at the harware menu; and in there should be your onboard network adapter listed as either enabled or dissabled, if dissabled enable it, if not showing at all then there is a motherboard fault, as even if the motherboard driver wasnt working XP's own default driver would see it.
all is not lost though because if you don't see it listed in the bios you can fit a PCI ethernet card very easily and cheaply which will fit in one of your spare PCI slots.

if you have set up the wireless connection and enable it in the router, i assume you have disconnected the wired RJ45 cable to the pc, if not do so, as the pc's ip address is still being sent to the wired adapter and needs to be giving the wireless adapter an ip address itself as you cannot have two.
Either remove cable or dissable the wired network card and ensure you enabled DHCP in the router settings to automatically give the pc an ip address, ensuring that thw wireless card is also set to obtain an ip address automatically in the TCP/IP properties of the wireless network adapter.
