Intermitant problems on old TV's are almost always poor solder connections. If you have done some soldering before you may be able to repair yourself, if not i wouldn't try to learn on this. Begin by gently tapping components on the circuit boards while the TV is on good chance you will tap an area and it will shut right off. make sure you are using something insulated and non-metalic. if you find a spot that is especially sensitive get to the bottom of that circuit board and begin soldering. this is probably the most likely cause but there are other possibilities. If you attempt this do be very carefull. My honest suggestion is to have a pro do it, if it just solder work it shouldnt cost that much maybe around a 100 to 150 if you can take it in somewhere.

This denotes a problem called blooming the horizontal lines you see are called retrace lines this is caused by the increase in anode voltage which could be caused by an increase in HV section current which trips the overcurrent protection dircuit and turns the TV off.If you do not have electronics experience I would suggest taking the set to a TV repair shop.
