Question about HP PSC 1315 All-In-One InkJet Printer

My printer keeps printing the test page every time it's switched on

My HP PSC 1315 prints the test page every time I switch it on. The only way to stop it is to press Cancel every time right after switching on the printer. It used to be fine and only print the test page on demand, but after the ink was changed it does it every time.

I'm having the same problem. I've already aligned the ink cartridge. I did it once just using the document automatically printed. (Bobby12345 - I did read the instructions) I did it again using the alignment utility in the Printing Preferences: Services tab.

Also, the ink cartridges are printing just fine. There doesn't seem to be an alignment problem. I'm just wasting ink if I don't cancel it in time. It is really annoying.

Is there a software soloution that anyone knows of?

I was having the same problem, and when I called HP, they wanted me to PAY $34 for technical support!!!! I could not believe it. Anyway, the solutions here fixed the prob. Gotta love the WWW. Thanks so much

  • rcrider Jan 20, 2008

Every time I try to print a document, the printer prints a test page first, then goes ahead and prints my document. I bought new ink cartridges to see if mine were defective, but that did not solve the problem. This problem started when I inserted a new black ink cartridge several months ago. My printer is an HP Photosmart C3180.

  • AlanM317 Feb 17, 2008

My printer does the same exact thing. I had it under warranty too and contacted HP about this problem and was assisted by an online tech. They never fixed my problem and when it finally went out of warranty, they said basically," Oh well!" This company sucks. My printer will continue to print out an alignment sheet everytime I turn the printer on, everytime I restart my computer, and even does it on it's own, like it's possesed or something. They offer no solution and I would recommend, never buying this printer or this brand!

I tried to follow all of these solutions and after I had the alignment paper in the scanner and pressed scan. It, scanned the paper and an error ton with a window popped up and said was unable to align due, to an incorrect paper in scanner. I have the correct paper in the scanner though. It's the average size paper. Please help

I had the same problem and it was driving me crazy until I did this. Please follow exactly and IN ORDER.

1. Turn off the printer and wait 10 seconds. Turn it on again

2. Let the printer print the test page.

3. After the test page is printed, disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer to your computer. DO NOT turn off the printer while disconnecting the USB cable.

4. Place the test page on the scanner glass and press the SCAN button on the printer. The ON light will flash as the page is being scanned.

5. Remove the test page when the ON light is steady.

6. Finally, turn off the printer and wait another 10 seconds. Then turn it on again. No more printing test pages! Yay!

(You may now reconnect the printer to your computer via the USB cable.)

I was just amazed at how simple the solution was.

1. Let the page print
2. Scan the page exactly like it shows you to. The scanner will make some goofy sounds, but no fear.

thats all. Its a strange solution, but it worked perfect for me!

Had the same problem, just realised its easy to sort out!! the test / alignment sheet that prints every time has instructions on it, follow the instructions. ie take test sheet place upsidedown on scan plate, hit scan and thats it! if you try switching on and off your printer now (once its finished scanning and moving about) it doesnt print the test sheet / you dont need to hit cancel again!! maybe we should all read the instructions every once in a while!! ;)

Solution worked perfectly for my HP2280 printer copier scanner

I will never buy another HP product , what a scam to use your ink, basically waste your ink (and your money)

HP printer products jam,eat paper, drinks ink like an alcoholic loves spirits!
it gets filthy, dirties paper, especially photo papers ,ruining them needs cleaning very often.
My friends Canon does not have these problems and is far more easy to use and it cost much less, ink is cheaper and you get more
and for God's sake , if your printer IS working, DO NOT DO UPDATES .... It will not work ,jam ,open.....
HP I wonder how you can make such shoddy products , oh yeah.... all for profits ....

you lost a customer HP

Thanks again to the uploader of this most excellent solution

I just had the same problem on a PSC1350 after putting in a new black cart and where alignment & test page use did not correct. Try this:

  • Open HP Director
  • On the main window select Settings>Print Settings>Printer Toolbox
  • Open the Configuration Tab
  • At bottom right click "Factory Settings" button then "Apply"
A configuration warning popped up explaining that 'd be changing settings used by the driver. I clicked ok. AOK. (I did do an alignment just before this, but it's probably not required to fix the prob.

I had the problem with my 1200 not only when turning on and off but also whenever I printed something. CEGer with Solution #7 had the best solution:

I did not try the turn off/on plug/unplug thing mentioned in a couple of the different solutions so I cannot attest to them working or not, but CEGer's solution worked great from me and it was easy.

BTW all you snide people talking about following directions, the problems people have that drive them to post here are due to the instructions not working most of the time, not due to their inability to comprehend directions - get over yourselves.

Hi, am not sure if this will for your model but you can try > Start, Printers & Faxes, Right Click on your printer, Properties. See if you can get to Utilities or Maintenance, if not try Printing Preferences. Or poke around the tabs, it normally is there somewhere with the words Print Head Alignment or something like that. proceed as instructed. Hopes this works out for you. You can also try getting in touch with gmscat coz I get the impression that he is very familiar with this particular brand/model. Good luck.

I had this problem. Tried all solutions that I found within this forum and others. Nothing worked.

SO - I uninstalled the printer, and removed the drivers (within "printers and faxes", click on File, then Server Properties, then Drivers, then Remove. If it refuses to remove the driver, close all programmes, re-start computer, and try again (this worked for me).

Then I reinstalled the printer, using the manufacturer's CD.

Problem completely solved.

THE ONLY ANSWER I CAN COME UP WITH IS TO NEVER BUY HP AGAIN...IT'S UNFORTUNATE I ENJOYED THEM FOR A LONG TIME. BUT I'M BURNING INK LIKE A FOOL.... ONLY OPTION I HAVE IS TO LEAVE THE PRINTERS ON 24 HRS A DAY EVERYDAY.... TILL THEY DIE. OR I THROW THEM. GOING EPSON OR CANNON.

HP PSC 1315 Prints test page every time printer is installed

Hi Jay,
This is mike, actually the problem is that that printer has not completed the aligning process, as a result the printer is printing the test page (Alignment page) every time when you turn it ON. So, I would suggest you to let the printer prints the alignment page and check whether the printer prints the page with all colors and it printed fine, once it is done, disconnect the USB cable behind the printer and then place the alignment page on the scanner glass by facing down the printed page downwards and press the scan button. This start the alignment process and the scanning process will be completed once the ON light is stop blinking. This will complete the alignment process.

Once done try to turn off and turn on the printer and check for the result. This should resolve the issue.

However, if the issue persist, then please revert back to me. Be sure that you use the HP genuine ink cartridges, not refilled nor re-manufacture.

Test printing

If you've recently changed your cartridges, the printer will try to print a test/alignment page. Note the instructions on the test page indicate what to do to complete the testing/alignment procedure.

1) Let it print.
2) Place the test page upside down on the scan plate.
3) Hit "Scan" and let it finish.

When the machine completes the scanning procedure, you'll be able to switch the printer on and off or reboot your computer without it printing the test page. By Dubbya

Take the test page ( also called : alighnment page ) that always prints when you switch on the printer and place it face down in the scanner.

Then press the scan button on the printer itself.
(this is the button at the bottom of all the buttons on the printer/scanner.)

Make sure that the printer scans the test page.
( sometimes you press the butoon and it doesn't scan )
( it makes a scanning noise when scanning succesfully )

Then it will stop printing the test page ( alignment page ) ever again.

This is a really stupid product feature on HP's part to waste ink and force people to buy more cartriges.
