We bought our PS2 approx 3-4 years ago, and had no problems with it. Recently, we tried another game that should be in color and only get black and white. We tried the other disks as well that prev worked in color, and also only black and white. Any suggestions?
The model is SCPH-39001. We are going to try and get new cables to connect to the TV. We replaced one set already, because the cord got damaged, but I don't remember if it was black and white with the old ones as well. Thanks for any input. The model is SCPH-39001. some part of the wire or the a/v connector is failing... originally it was just the blue that was going out in my picture (I'm using component)... but lately it's been ALL color. I just have a gray image. and jiggling it doesn't even restore the other colors, it just makes it lose signal entirely.

Hello Staubs,
please look at the back side. There should be a sticker with the model (for example SCPH3XXXX). So please, which model is it?
Thank you,
Arpad
the cause of your trouble could be either CN201 or the analog video encoder integrated circuit. Anyway you should contact the nearest Authorized Sony Service for PlayStation repairs.

color circuit is out, try banging the set on the frame with the palm of your hand to see if color comes on or fluctuates, if so you have a loose component which is only fixable by you if you are really knowledgeable about the inside of a TV
make sure to set input on the TV is set to s-video. If left on AV2 the picture is black & white. Set to AV2S the picture is in colour.http://www.avforums.com/forums/ps2/692572-ps2-picture-black-white.html here some troubleshooting steps to help find out what maybe wrong
1. try a different tv
2. if you have a friend with a ps2 try borrowing their cable to make sure its not the cable.
3. try your friends ps2 on your tv.
try to trouble shoot if the wire is the problem, how? remove the 3 colored wires from the tv and ps2 then try to use the red color instead of yellow to the video from tv and ps2 (both red) temporarily do not use the yellow color. once a picture appears use now the white for the audio (both white) for left audio once there is a sound you may try the yellow for the right audio. i hope this will help you and hear a positve reply from you.
