I recently had to uninstall my Norton antivirus in order to reinstall it. After I'd uninstalled it the CD drive no longer works. It opens and closes but nothing happens. It also doesn't appear in the 'My Computer' dialog box and when i open device manager it is listed there but there is a yellow ! indicating a problem. Trouble shooter doesn't fix it and I'm having trouble finding the driver for it online. Any ideas where i would update or reinstall the driver?

Re: Computer doesn't recognise CD drive at all
This may not help, But worth trying. First make sure the eide braid is connected firmly on both end and the power cord is pushed in all the way. if all that is okay do a Google search for lite on they have a website with lots of drivers and firmware upgades. Just need to find yours in the list. Good luck

You will benefit from googling Norton remove tool to completely uninstall all files and folders to ensure the corrupted part is off the machine as this is preventing full install.i believe you have to stop all antivirus modules running from task manager to do it properly.if you still have a problem then look for a professional uninstalled like revo uninstaller to remove all registry entries too.
Make sure that your product is activated.Once your product is registered(activated),you can uninstall it any time and reinstall the same. You can uninstall it through "Add or remove programs" in control panel or by running Norton removal tool.Norton removal tool does not remove your product subscription information.
Try uninstall norton antivirus and load avira antivirus, run word program and check whether an error will come out. If no error, your antivirus might be corrupted and somehow affects your application. If error still occurs after replacing norton, uninstall office program and reinstall again.
The Norton should have come with a install disk. Assuming that you have the disk, here are the steps:
First, Uninstall your current antivirus software. (It is recommended to unplug your internet connection until you have reinstalled the Antivirus software)
go to start menu > click "computer" or "my computer" (depends on which windows system you have) > click "add or remove programs" or "uninstall or change a program" > on the list, select Norton antivirus and click unstall > follow the steps that show up on the screen
To install: put the install disk in the drive. The disk should start up automatically. IF IT DOES NOT: go to "computer" or "my computer" and right click on your disk drive and select autoplay (or something similar... once again, the exact label will depend on your operating system) The disk should start a installation wizard that will walk you through the rest of the process....
before you do all this i suggest you try going to start and running system restore under start programs accessiories system tools - system restore and restore to a previous point when you were not having these problems... if that don't work try the next best thing

1. Yes, uninstall before installing any other antivirus program or security suite. Your computer (and you) will be happier. 2. Once you uninstall the trial version of Norton, go ahead and download One Care. I've heard some good things about it, but haven't used it personally or seen it installed on a client's computer. 3. Symantec/Norton has made improvements to their software uninstalls. If you have a newer version of Norton installed, it should cleanly uninstall from the Add/Remove programs area. If it's older, you may have issues getting it to uninstall - leaving remnants as you mentioned. Symantec has help removing their software completely on their support site if you need help.
