Vtech base unit is model 5845 with original receiver intact. remote units have been lost. i purchased vtech model 5874 handsets and remote docking sets from ebay hoping i could make them sync with my base unit. i've tried unplugging all the units, disconnecting the batteries and reattaching. it didn't work. any suggestions? thanks.

from the troubleshooting section of the manual
• Unplug the base unit’s electrical power and remove the battery from the handset. Wait for 15 seconds then plug in the battery place the handset in the base unit and plug in the power. Allow up to one minute for the cordless handset and base to synchronize
not a guarantee, something to try

My handset displays CONNECTING...
Move the handset closer to the telephone base. You might have moved out of range.
This is what was listed in the Vtech Manual.
What I suggest is not just powering it off, but remove battery and wait a couple of minutes. Put battery back in and try it. The other thing I suggest is a new battery or switching it temporarily with a phone that works, to see if that helps before you buy a new one. If the battery is weak it will have trouble reaching the base.

Place the handset in the charger and press find handset for 4 seconds. This will register the handset. do the same for other handsets.
