Hi,
My xbox 360 starts up sponteanously. When it's on the the dvd tray opens and closes continously. What can cause this problem?
I have the same Problem my X box came on spontaniously and the DVD tray opens and closes non stop till I get the RROD code. it will play games and DVDs only if it stays closed long enough to start then it opens up and starts the cycle all over. I opned up the DVD drive and can't see any thing blocking any thing I even used a Q tip to pit a little oil on the screw meckanisim that opens the drive and blue it out with compressed air. and it did not fix the problem I am going to have to buy a new drive my Drive is a Philips drive.
Have you opened the Xbox and tried to fix something?
Have you tried getting some compressed air and blowing out the DVD drive? Maybe something is blocking the rails or the gears and its forcing itself to open/close. As for the spontaneous ON/OFF, I have no clue. I'm a technician at Play-N-Trade in Spring, Texas, and I'm asking around at our other stores if they have seen the problem. Sit tight and I'll try and help out your situation.
Only if your Xbox is out of warranty would I suggest that. I would try that and then post your results when your finished.

No,
I didn't open it. strange isn't it? There's actually no problem with reading the disk. It just reads the disk and launches the game if it has the chance(i mean when the tray didn't go open and close in the meantime)
wow thanks! , for putting all this effort to my question.
As fot the spontaneous switching ON (only On, no spontaneous off switching), it seems that Xbox360 in general can be powered on also by pushing the tray eject button. That's why i think the problem concentrates on something that has to do with the tray, maybe as you say, that something is blocking the rail. I saw another problem very much like my problem on this forum. The given solution for that problem was to open up the Xbox 360 and get to open the dvd drive, in the spindle where the game rest in the middle of your spindle you will normally find two magnets. They might have come off. He suggest to superglue them again and the problem should be fixed.
What do you suggest, should i try this?
same problem it sux and im out of warranty
I have the same problem
I have this exact same problem and I also have another xbox 360 so I swapped the DVD Drives and that still hasn't fixed it. It's not the DVD drive that's the problem it's something else. Any Help?!?
