Protect Push Power on a Sony is telling you that you have an output short circuit and to turn off the player to prevent further damage. Check the speaker cables for connection fault. If all is OK it means you have a blown STK Amplifier Chip. Will cost you about 20$ plus labor.
Two blink code on this set means Usually one of the two pico fuses that protect the STK-393-110 CONVERGENCE IC is blown--the fuses will need to be tested and the chip and them replaced--
If you have enough skill I have step by step start to finish instructions for this repair in this set---set detects one of the voltages to the Chip is not there and shuts down instantly. I have photos of the chip, fuses and protect resistors this set uses also.
If you want the instructions for free give me a email and I will send them to you for free--if you are able to do this repair yourself you will save a lot of money--you can buy the chip on Ebay for about 14 dollars plus shipping and the same seller sells the pico fuses..............
If you want to attempt this give me a vote here--If you are not able to do it yourself I have suggestions for you about getting the set fixed--I have done hundreds of these sets!
Just reply to this post here.
Let me know what you want to do, I am here to help people
1.) 2-2 is short protection and usually means one of the two fuses that protect the convergence IC are bad.
2.) This model uses a Single convergence IC--A STK-393-110 THAT can be purchased for about 14 dollars plus shipping on ebay.
3.) If one of the fuses that protect it is blown the set detects no voltage present and shuts down instantly.
4.) I have photos of what the fuses that need to be checked look like; also there are several protect resistors around the chip that need to be looked at also--I have photos of them also.
5.) I also have step by step start to finish instructions for this repair for this model--It tells you how to do the repair and everything you will need to do it.
6.) If you want the photos and instructions give me a vote here and I will email them to you free.
7.) I do this here for free so if this has been helpful take a minute and give me a vote here.
Protect mode will kicking whenever a fault is detected.
Causes that can start protect mode are:
Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.
Bad speaker wiring. Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.
Internal fault. Internal
fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not
work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In
this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an
experienced person. If the unit is less than one year old, or if you
want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the
product documentation.
Why do you think the output chip is blown? This is NOT a user serviceable part. One must posess several uncommon tools, and must know what the output chip looks like.
There IS a chance that the radio is in SELF PROTECT MODE becausea speaker in the car is causing a direct short, or even possibly VERY HIGH, or VERY LOW resistance.
One at a time Disconnect speakers while the radio has a CD or station tuned in. If you disconnect the "blown speaker" the remaining speakers left connected should start to play.
Power protect tends to mean the main power amp chip has "blown" and needs to be replaced.
It only costs about 20 dollars (10GBP).
If you are handy with a soldering iron it is easy to do (after you get the thing to bits !)
It is the big black thing on the big heatsink inside.
The Sony part number is STK442 - 130.
Seems a waste to throw the whole thing away for the sake of 10 pounds !.
Hope this helps. Nik Howell ([email protected])

Doiuble check your wiresa again for no pinches or shorts, even at the back of the unit. Also try unplugging the unit for 12 to 24 hours. If that does not help, it may be the time to buy a new stereo because that means there is a fault in the output device, unless you kinow someone who can trouble shoot and repair solid state electronics.
