Question about Crate Music

Open Question

Crate g600 loss of sound

When playing on Channel B, the amp will suddenly go to a very, very low volume that is barely audible. I have looked on the inside of the amp head, and nothing seems to be broken or not attached.

If you can solder, try resoldering any connections on the board that appear grainy or have rings. It is likely that after the unit has been working for a while, the heat is causing a marginal connection to open up.

SOURCE: Laney GH50L guitar amp head and cab. The bypass

The symptoms are common to a capacitively coupled signal which is often a bad switch on an insert jack that is bent so as to not contact the signal to pass it to the power amp.

The jacks on MANY of these amps are plain JUNK. If a cable is yanked a bit it can bend the spring contact. When the conttact is very close, but not touching, the capacitance will pass the high frequencies but not the low and ALL frequencies will be very attenuated.

SOURCE: I have a crate PA 8 and it makes a crackling noise

Hi

The problem is with the amplifier itself. Crackling is usually capacitor related and you will need to have the amp checked over to properly identify the cause.

Some amps are also prone to pick up static from other electrical items which can also cause these problems. I had a crackling issue with an old Crate amp of mine which turned out it was due to being too near a computer/monitor so it is worth eliminating these things as a possible cause before having the amp checked.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa.

A possible problem MIGHT be marginal switch contacts on the external foot controller cable. If you are not using the foot pedal, these contacts must maintain contact to keep the same channel selected.

I have a crate vtx200s has very little volume everything else works whats the deal?

Hi, you hadnt mentioned how long you've had the amp, or how new it is, so I'm going to assume it's new to you. The Crate VTX200 has 3 channels, each with its own volume level. Let's check the simple things first:
1. Check to make sure you're adjusting the same volume knob volume knob to the same channel. The active channel will be lit with a green light.
2. Check the cables from the "Speaker Out" jacks on the amp (if you are using them). Are they plugged in all the way, or are they damaged?
3. Are you playing through a preset that you may have accidentally made "low", and may not be aware of or are stuck in it?
If none of these answers helps, there might be a problem with the input buffer in the circuit or possibly within the damping circuit of the speakers. I'd advise having the amp serviced to confirm an internal electrical problem also. If you don't have a manual for the amp, one can be found here:

Crate amp very low volume

Effects loops plug sockets get dirty and cause the sound to not get through to the actual power amp. Check those by plugging in a cable and wiggling to see. It needs to be wiggled and unplugged to see. Also, check for dirty volume control.

Monitors not audible with Behringer 1680S

Assuming you're trying to power the monitors from this unit as well as the mains.....Confirm that the amp switch is in the middle position which splits the internal amps....one for main and one for monitors. Output A would power the monitors.... B would power the mains.

Crate Flexwave 120h (Half Stack) volume issues

Perhaps you have a bad capacitor on your volume control?

You can get an ESR meter and test your exposed isolation caps for leakage? The have to be removed so unplug the unit if you are gonna do any work inside the cabinet.

Also, try a shorter or higher quality guitar cable. This will cut impedance between the pickups and the amp.

Good luck and be careful!

Crate flexwave 120 head sound cuts out

You have a broken solder joint. You'll have to disassemble the amp enough to get at the soldered side of the circuit board that the controls are mounted to and touch up any suspect solder joints. Just be sure to resolder only the joints that were originally soldered or need to be soldered. Hope this helps.

Plugging line level into my crate TX15. all inputs sound distort

guitar amps are all set to a low Z resistance configuration. wich are made for guitar only. make sure you are using the right cables.
you need sheilded guitar cable not unshielded speaker cable in many cases these cables look exactly the same. look at your cable look for the words speaker or instrument. you need the instrument cable. if you still have that problem. then you may just not be satisfied with the quality of the amp it self.
