The projector does not respond to the remote control. The battery is new and does work. The projector only shows computer as an option even though a composite video cable is connected.

Yes you need to replace the cable first, I have seen a fw of the cables go bad on this model.

Try using a different cable.
If the response is the same on a different cable , then the Mainboard might be at fault - this machine should still be under warranty and the warranty will cover repairs.

1.
Connect the external display port on your laptop computer to the projection system, and then turn on the projector. For information about connecting external devices to your laptop, see the documentation for your laptop computer.
2.
Set the display resolution of your laptop computer to match the resolution of the projector system. First, on your laptop, open the Display Properties dialog box by using the Display icon in Control Panel, and click the Settings tab. Then, in Screen resolution area, move the slider to adjust the display resolution of your laptop. If you don't know which setting to choose, try 800 x 600 pixels; this is a common setting for many projector systems.

The sequence is fn first then f5 simultaneously then release. However the problem may be the resolution setting on your computer's 2nd monitor output may be out of range (too High) for the 4805 Start with 1024X768 and see if that works.
