Ethernet card suddenly stoped working properly

There were no HW/SW changes made recently, i was working perfectly on the network, then i logged out, the following syptoms: I can't take an IP address from my DHCP server, always limited or no connectivity. I did the following workarounds: Tried to disable then enable the card. insatll a new driver for the card. upgrade the bios. the status of the card, sent but not recieve. tried to give an address with the same settings, but the same behavior, can sent but recieve. can't ping my default gateway. I can ping the, and the ip address asgined, but not the gateway, with sent but ot recieve data, status. I installed a new external card, and its working perfectly. Also, i renew my anti virus, scan my computer more than 3 times, with three different anti viruses, with no luck. Could it be a HW failure? Or there are similar situations, someone faced before? Appreciate your fast response.

If you can send packets but not receive, then the hardware is ok, it is a setting on the card that is incorrect or the Windows connection repair has changed the card address. If your router is set at Automatic DHCP then it should give your card the correct IP address and also DNS. In sending your card is trying to communicate with the router but not receiving an answer.

If the wireless is built in with your laptop and not a pcmcia or usb peripheral, check to see if you can get it to work with Windows Zero Configuration, which is Windows own wireless software.

You should be able to enable this in the wireless connection properties.

If you have already tried this then maybe it's time on this planet is over.

Why does my ethernet not work properly?

In order to decide wheather it is a HW or a SW fault, try to boot another operating system, eg. some one-CD Linux testing distribution. In case it is a SW problem:
- try to instal Asus update (utilities):
ASUS Update V7.17.17 for Windows XP 32bit/XP 64bit/Vista 32bit/Vista 64bit/7 32bit/7 64bit from:
- try to set in BIOS: POST Check LAN Cable: ENABLE (for both LANs). Any error message?
- try to switch off one of LANs: Onboard 1st(2nd) nVidia LAN: DISABLED. Does the other LAN work?
The last step could be testing different version of BIOS...
The easiest way to get LAN ready could be installing PCI LAN card...

I recently ordered an older version of Dell OptiPlex GX620 with networl card. Now, I already have wifi in my home. Will I be able to get on the internet with just that?

You should be able to connect if the network card is enabled and working properly. Just do a search for Available Wireless Networks, Select your SSID and enter your security code. That said, you can use the Wired Ethernet as well, providing your wireless access point has ethernet ports on the device. Wired , of course, is faster.

Network card disappeared overnite

Before adding any ethernet card, try to restore your system by using system restore option available with windows to a date on which your system was perfectly working. If the your system works fine after that, then it is quite likely to have your system infected by malicious software or anti virus. Scan your system for virus. If the ethernet is not working then add a new card after disabling the on-board network card in the CMOS setup.

Network ethernet prolem

Access the BIOS and see if the ethernet device is enabled (do this only if the ethernet device is built in on the board). If its a card, its more than likely dmaged. Replace the card.

Problem with my lan port

did you check the cable that is it working fine???
and the other thing does your network connection shows that the local area is unplugged if it shows then it is definatly problem with the wire or Connector.

One of two 3com pci gigabit ethernet cards is not working

If you have the driver disk that was distributed with the card , try reinstalling the card drivers first.

If the card is faulty, buy a new pci ethernet adapter and replace it, inserting the ethernet adapter into the pci slot.

After installing install drivers for the new card with the disk that will come with the card.

Ensure that you are logged in as administrator when you reinstall the drivers.
