SOURCE: how do I take the front screen off to clean the
First: do not take front screen off for cleaning--easy way is to remove entire black plastic shroud (you look at back of set and you will see 2 silver pegs near top edge) This set uses torks type screws---you need to remove several and the entire upper plastic in back comes off. The mirror is suspended separate from this. With the shroud removed you can clean the lens of the 3 picture tubes or any debris on the inside of the screen----do not use glass cleaner on the screen; but if you have smudges or bugs on the inside just use a very fine soft cloth(you may need to moisten it slightly) Any mark you make will show! If you find you have spider webs use a swiffer type duster to remove them.
I do this here for free so if this was helpful give me a vote here. If you have questions or need help let me know.

Philips TV's have a reputation of bad coolant fluid. This fluid is found between the picture tube face and the projection lens. The coolant starts turning a milky brown color and causes the picture coming through it to be degraded. This envolves removing the picture tubes and changing the fluid. This is a very complicated repair because it envolves convergence adjustment after it is reassembled. Most shops charge about $300-$400 bucks to do this. Have a shop check it out for you and make sure that is what the problem is. Thanks for using fixya. I hope this gets you on the right track.
